Green Bay vs Kansas College Basketball Betting Preview

Green Bay Basketball

The Doug Gottlieb experiment continues for the Green Bay Phoenix. They won just four games last season, largely due to a defense ranked 342nd by adjusted efficiency. They were last in offensive rebounding and ranked 241st or worse in every major defensive category.

They return six players, none of whom provided a bulk of production outside of Marcus Hall. Four of their five top producers have left.

They did go into the portal, receiving a commitment from LeBron Thomas, a JUCO standout from Vincennes University. They also received commitments from an international transfer pool, landing two players.

But their immediate impact players will be Josh Hines and Rob Stroud, a pair of JUCO transfers that averaged 21.2 and 17.1 points per game, respectively, last season.

I’m not sure they’ll have the firepower to contend against Kansas, but I like their ability to improve this season. After all, they only have one direction to go after last season.

Kansas Basketball

Let’s cut to the chase: This game is a total mismatch. Kansas has a new future ahead with the departures of Hunter Dickinson, Rylan Griffen, Zeke Mayo and Dajuan Harris Jr.

But it’s Kansas, so it reloaded with more highly-touted stars.

The Jayhawks also did themselves zero favors. They have a tough non-conference schedule, including games against North Carolina, Duke and UConn.

Expect a big role from Darryn Peterson, their top-ranked guard and projected top-five NBA draft pick. This team will most likely try to play up-tempo all season long behind three guards and knockdown 3-point specialist Tre White.

Considering its schedule ahead, I'm not sure how much you'll see Kansas unveil in its first game. Allen Fieldhouse will likely be loud, but this might be an early lookahead spot.

Green Bay vs. Kansas Betting Analysis

It’s easy to look at this game and spot the mismatches — they're all over the court. But can we lay 28 points? I don’t think so.

I'll look at this total. I expect Kansas to push the pace, but I don't expect it to shoot out of the gym. If this lead gets big enough, we could see a subdued pace late.

Green Bay might have trouble reaching 50 points. Gottlieb will utilize the clock in his system, and it could take a little bit for this new backcourt to get acquainted.

If that’s the case, I don't expect the Phoenix to be able to help the cause towards this total. I see a lot of 151.5 numbers, with 152.5 at FanDuel.

I like this number, and I would take the under all the way to 149.5.

My Pick: Under 151.5 (Play to 149.5)
