Cougars 2024 Schedule & Betting Odds
Houston Cougars 2021-22 Season
Houston was a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament last season and made the Final Four, but the way they got there had just a bit of luck added to it. After a collapse by No. 10 Rutgers got Houston to the Sweet Sixteen, they got to face No. 11 Syracuse and No. 12 Oregon State in the next two rounds before being crushed by eventual national champion Baylor. While it was their best finish since 1984, it felt like they were at the right place at the right time.
This year’s team started to get that narrative out of the way after starting 20-2. But back-to-back losses to unranked teams saw them drop from No. 6 to No. 14 in the nation quickly. You’d think they have an easy schedule in the American conference, but we’ll just have to see if they can take care of business.

Betting on the Houston Cougars
The Houston Cougars have some tough matchups remaining in the season, so be sure to pay close attention to the odds. Here are some of the popular bet types that you can make on the Cougars if you live in a legal sports betting state.
- Moneyline
- Point Spread
- Over/Under
- Props
- Futures Odds
Houston Moneyline
A moneyline bet requires a bettor to correctly pick the winner of the game. If you pick the winner of the game correctly, you will win the bet. How much you win will be determined by your wager amount and the associated moneyline for the team you bet on. Here's an example using a recent Houston game against Memphis.
- Houston -480 moneyline
- Memphis +360 moneyline
Houston is the favored team to win this game, which is indicated by the minus sign (-) next to their moneyline. Memphis is the underdog denoted by the plus sign (+) next to their moneyline. The moneyline number signifies the potential payout for each team. Someone betting on Houston would have to bet $480 to win $100 whereas a bettor would win $360 with a wager of $100 on Memphis.
Houston Point Spread
Users can also place a point spread wager on the Houston Cougars. This requires a bettor to correctly select the margin of victory by a particular team, rather than simply who wins. Here's the same Houston vs. Memphis matchup as an example.
- Houston -9.5 (-110)
- Memphis +9.5 (-110)
Oddsmakers set a margin of victory total known as the spread. In this game, Houston has to win by 10 or more points to beat this spread and Memphis either has to win the game outright or lose by 9 points or less to beat the spread. Point spreads also have an additional element known as juice, or the vig, which is the tax paid to the sportsbook for each bet. The juice is indicated next to the point spread. This number is used to determine a wager payout. For a bet on Houston, a bettor would earn a profit of $100 for every $110 risked. Someone betting on Memphis would earn a profit of $100 for every $110 risked.
Houston Over/Unders
Betting on over/under totals looks at the cumulative final score between two teams, not the winner or loser of the game. Bettors are required to accurately predict if the teams combine higher or lower than a number set by oddsmakers. Oddsmakers set the over/under total for UCLA vs. USC at 136.5 points.
- Over 141.5 points (-110)
- Under 141.5 points (-110)
Again, juice or vig comes into play with over/unders. Betting over 141.5 points means in this case that a bettor would have to wager $110 to earn $100. Betting under 141.5 points would mean a bettor would earn $100 for every $110 risked.
Houston Prop Bets
For those Houston fans that have a particular favorite player, prop bets are a great way to show your support. Oddsmakers will also set lines on player statistics. Bettors then have the opportunity to guess whether those players will go over or under the set line to win money. Some popular prop bets include how many points a player will score, who will score first, how many rebounds a player gets, and many more.
Houston Future Odds
If you like Houston’s odds to make the Final Four or win the NCAA Tournament, take a look at futures odds . A futures bet is wager for an event happening in the later in the season. Because a futures bet can be really hard to predict, the payouts are much higher than a typical wager. The Bruins are currently +750 to make the Final Four and +3500 to win the NCAA Tournament (odds via PointsBet Sportsbook) – check out our PointsBet Promo Code page and sign up with ACTION2K1 to claim $2,200 in risk-free bets.
How to Bet on Houston
Sports betting is not currently legal in Texas, and there does not seem to be much in the way of progress for it to be legalized in 2022. Texas politicians have been largely opposed to sports betting in recent years, but sentiment within the state could be shifting. Most expect that any potential legislation could be voted on in the 2023 state general election at the earliest. Stay tuned for updates on The Action Network's Texas betting page regarding sports betting legislation in the state.
