Princeton vs Kansas College Basketball Betting Preview

The mighty Kansas Jayhawks host the rocket scientists from Princeton in an intriguing non-conference bout.

Both programs enter this game underperforming their norms.

Kansas was exposed in its only real test of the season, losing handily to North Carolina. The Jayhawks are 11-11 over their last 22 games dating back to last year.

Princeton, meanwhile, lost its three stars from last season and opened this year with a 35-point loss at Akron.

A key note before getting into the nitty-gritty: freshman phenom Darryn Peterson will reportedly be out again for Kansas as he continues to nurse the hamstring injury that kept him sidelined last game.

Peterson is by far Kansas' best offensive weapon, and without him, the Jayhawks lack a true alpha scorer.

The biggest concerns for Princeton will be keeping Kansas out of transition and defending ball screens. While Peterson is out, Melvin Council Jr. is still a dangerous pick-and-roll weapon who should team up with Flory Bidunga for an alley-oop or two.

On the other end, Princeton could struggle to score against an elite Kansas defense. The Tigers, of course, run the famous Princeton offense, and they'll likely catch the Jayhawks napping on a basket cut or two.

However, Princeton has relied heavily on jumpers this season and has shown a complete inability to get the ball to the rim and finish.

Kansas’ athleticism and significant perimeter length could give the Tigers major issues.

Kansas will likely run much of its offense through the post, centered around star big man Bidunga.

He’ll have a massive size advantage against Princeton’s frontcourt — and it’s concerning that Akron dominated the Tigers at the rim, shooting 18-for-20 at the cup.

Still, you can never fully count out Princeton on the glass or defending inside.

Mitch Henderson’s crew has toppled plenty of teams that outclass it in size and athleticism.

Princeton vs. Kansas Betting Analysis

This spread is huge — and is likely to keep growing as bettors steam the Jayhawks even without Peterson.

Normally, backing an Ivy League squad — especially Princeton — would be an automatic click. But this season's Tigers simply don’t have the same bite, and Kansas is no doubt hungry to take care of business at home after an embarrassing loss to North Carolina.

My Pick: Kansas -23.5
