Wofford vs Furman College Basketball Betting Preview

Wofford brought back among the most minutes in the country this season, which has helped lead to a stark jump in analytical rankings despite a near-identical record to 2024.

The Terriers split the season series with Furman, with each team winning on the other’s home floor. In both games, Wofford absolutely dominated the offensive glass. It grabbed 20 offensive rebounds in the first outing (54% of its misses) and 17 in the second meeting (46%).

Hot shooting helped Wofford smoke Furman in the first game, but the Paladins lit the nets on fire in round two, winning narrowly in Spartanburg.

Wofford is the best rebounding team in the SoCon and should dominate the glass once again in the rubber match. Furman’s paint presence is a major weakness – the Paladins lack interior fortitude and rim protection.

The Terriers will bomb away from deep (24th nationally in 3-point attempt rate) and look to clean up their misses with regularity.

Coach Dwight Perry runs a motion offense predicated on off-ball action and heavy on cutting and screening. Point guard Corey Tripp is an experienced leader, and big man Kyler Filewich is an excellent passer who also happens to shoot free throws underhanded.

While Furman is the better shooting team, Wofford has the interior dominance to balance its outside attack.

Winners of six straight, Furman took down arguably the best two teams in the league over the past two days in Samford and Chattanooga.

Hot shooting has led the way. The Paladins knocked down 17-of-29 from deep against Samford and 12-of-28 against Chattanooga, meaning they’re a ridiculous 29-of-57 from deep (51%) over a two-game span.

3-point shooting is Furman’s primary offensive weapon, ranking fifth nationally in 3-point attempt rate and top-75 in 3-point percentage — over 51% of its shot attempts this year have come from the Land of Plenty.

Like Wofford, Furman moves the ball extremely well and ranks top-three in the country in assist rate. Wofford really sags defensively – the Terriers pack the arc and rank just 342nd in 3-point attempt rate allowed. Furman will exploit them if they don’t extend.

PJay Smith is the playmaker, a savvy lead guard with endless range, and Garrett Hien is Furman’s passing big – he acts as a hub offensively. Bob Richey runs a four-out (sometimes five-out) attack that prioritizes passing over dribbling, cutting and hand-offs.

This should be a great game between two efficient offenses that love to shoot the long ball and share the sugar. Efficiency should be extremely high, as both offenses can exploit their opponent’s defense.

In the SoCon Tournament, both of Furman’s contests have gone over (even before OT), and Wofford’s opening game barely stayed under, while its tilt against VMI soared over.

Expect points, points and points in this game and for the score to hurdle over the total.
