The top of the Southland Conference hosts the bottom in what could be a really ugly game from the tip.

McNeese has been an absolute problem from the start of the season; winning at VCU, UAB and Michigan is something a Southland team has never done. What Will Wade is doing in Lake Charles, Louisiana, needs to be noticed at a national level.

Meanwhile, Texas A&M-Commerce is having a bit of a down year after being a feisty team last season.

It's not often you would take a peek into a Southland Conference game, but on a less-than-stellar Monday slate, McNeese could be a team to watch.

Texas A&M Commerce Lions

Texas A&M-Commerce has only been in the D-I ranks for a short period of time, but it's more than held its own. The Lions currently sit at 2-7 in conference after finishing 9-9 last season.

Are they going to win seven of their next nine and tie their status from last year? No, but the Lions do have a few opportunities on their schedule to elevate themselves ahead of the conference tournament.

Sadly for them, this game is not one of them. They already hosted McNeese this season and lost by double digits in a game that was never really close.

Last year, Texas A&M-Commerce won the first two meetings against McNeese and lost by one in the Southland Tournament.

Since that time, both squads have gone in opposite directions.

This is a tough ask for a weak team on the road.

McNeese State Cowboys

Your first place McNeese Cowboys come into this game in unfamiliar territory. They're coming off of their first conference loss of the season on Saturday against SE Louisiana. The Cowboys were 9.5-point favorites in that matchup, so it's safe to say that was a shocker.

It'll be interesting to see how they bounce back in a spot they haven't been in often this season.

Wade is veteran and has an elite squad. What he's done with this program is truly special, including three wins against potential NCAA tournament teams.

I'm expecting his Cowboys to bounce back in a strong way in this contest.

Betting Pick & Prediction

McNeese's offensive metrics are elite on a national level, not just in the Southland. The Cowboys rank inside the top 25 in both effective field goal percentage and 3-point percentage.

Nearly every single important metric points in a massive advantage for McNeese.

It's no surprise that the numbers simply say McNeese is better than TAMU-Commerce; it's massive favorites for a reason and will win the game.

Do the Cowboys have what it takes to kick it into that next gear and cover the number? I believe they do. Throw in that they're coming off an ugly loss and returning home, and this points to a great look at McNeese to cover the number.

This is an NCAA tournament team, and the Cowboys will show us what they're made of on Monday. Lay the number with the Cowboys.

Pick: McNeese -18.5
