The Boise State Broncos are tied with the San Diego State Aztecs for the top spot in the Mountain West, but are still +230 to win the conference at most books. The Broncos are 13-2 over their past 15 games and looking to extend their five-game winning streak in conference play.

New Mexico State has had some impressive win streaks of its own. New Mexico rattled off 14 wins in a row to begin the season before losing consecutive games to Fresno State and UNLV. Since then, the Lobos have won three in a row, including a nine-point win over the Aztecs, who sit atop the conference with the Broncos.

Boise State Broncos

The Broncos have not only been the best team in the Mountain West when it comes to offensive efficiency, they've also been the best when it comes to defensive efficiency.  Additionally, Boise State is posting the best scoring margin in the conference, outscoring opponents by an average of 11 points per game.

Marcus Shaver Jr., the Broncos leader, has struggled over the past five games, but Tyson Degenhart and Max Rice have both stepped up in a big way. Degenhart and Rice have combined to average 32 points per game over the past five contests and they're each shooting better than 53% over that timeframe.

One thing to watch for against New Mexico will be to see if Boise State can remain hot from 3-point range. Over their past five games, the Broncos have cashed in on 44.4% of their attempts from deep — an improvement on their already impressive season-long number (37.6%).

The Broncos will be put to the test against a Lobos team that has been the best in the Mountain West. New Mexico has held teams to just 29.5% shooting from 3-point range.

New Mexico Lobos

The Lobos match up well with the Broncos defensively, but there have been some serious issues of late for Richard Pitino's team at the offensive end. Since conference play began, the Lobos are seventh in effective field goal percentage.

New Mexico is hitting just 51.2% of its 2-point shots in conference play and has fallen off tremendously from 3-point range lately. The Lobos have hit 38% from deep in conference play, but over their past five games they've made just 28.2% of their 3's.

One upside for the Lobos is that despite having struggled with turnovers recently, that may not be a pressing issue against Boise State. The Broncos have forced teams into turning the ball over on just 17.9% of possessions since Mountain West play began.

Boise State vs New Mexico Betting Pick

I loved Boise State to win the Mountain West in the preseason. I loved the Broncos more after they proved they could win on the road at St. Louis and I even loved them even after they lost two in a row at the beginning of conference play.

Boise State has been the best team in the Mountain West at both ends of the floor and I don't see that ending anytime soon. New Mexico has looked impressive recently, but its win over San Diego State could very easily be attributed to foul trouble and a bad offensive performance from the Aztecs.

I'll be backing the Broncos to win outright at -105 or better.
