The Colorado State Rams need a win in the worst way after dropping their last two contests. The Rams host the Nevada Wolf Pack on Tuesday night as they seek revenge for their matchup earlier in the year.
The Wolf Pack have hit their stride at the right time, sitting only one game behind Utah State in the Mountain West standings. They most likely need to win three out of their last four games to win the regular-season title, but they can't lose to Boise State.
There is good reason to believe the Rams bounce back at home after their latest scuffle.
Nevada has been making a name for itself in the world of college basketball.
However, I am a bit worried about the Wolf Pack's chances against the Rams, who are desperate for a win after losing their last two games and whose defense is due for some positive regression.
The Wolf Pack are a well-rounded team with a top-65 ranking in both offensive and defensive efficiency. To win against the Rams on the road, the Wolf Pack must bring their A-game offensively, especially since the Rams' strength lies in their offensive.
Nevada is shooting well from 3, but the metrics indicate it has been fortunate in that category. Despite not taking many 3s as a team, the Wolf Pack have been shooting better from distance than most teams in the country.
If their offense performs well and takes advantage of the Rams' perimeter defense, they have a good chance of maintaining their winning streak. Both teams are similar defensively, but Colorado State excels in defensive rebounding while Nevada struggles to gain second scoring chances.
The team that wins the battle of the glass will likely be the winner of the game.

While Colorado State's chances at an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament are not eliminated, it must improve its performance quickly to avoid being on the bubble. The Rams are 8-7 in the highly competitive Mountain West, which should be sufficient to qualify for the NCAA Tournament without winning the conference tournament.
On Tuesday evening, the Rams will rely heavily on senior guard Isaiah Stevens to lead the team. Stevens is the most exceptional offensive player on the team, and he is the one who can break through the Wolf Pack's tough defense.
Both teams play at a slower pace on offense, which I believe benefits Colorado State since it can win by grinding out a slow-paced game. Although I am concerned about the Rams' perimeter defense, I think they have been unlucky in that area.
The Rams will be more motivated to win the game despite the Wolf Pack's chance of securing first place in the Mountain West. Moreover, Colorado State has played well at home this season.
Nevada vs Colorado State
Betting Pick & Prediction
The Rams can dominate the rebounding game, and I expect the Wolf Pack's shooting to regress negatively. While it is difficult to predict how Colorado State's perimeter defense will hold up throughout the game, I believe it will be a close game.
Instead of betting the Under, I recommend taking a different approach.
Colorado State has a great opportunity to bounce back at home. I trust the Rams' defense to contain the Wolf Pack offense throughout the contest, and they should be able to win the battle on the glass.
I expect this to be a close game, but I simply have more faith in the better defensive team and the team playing at home. The Rams are still a lock to make the NCAA Tournament as of right now, but they certainly don't want to keep losing and carry that bad momentum into March.
If there's anybody on the floor that I trust the most on these two teams, it is Stevens. He has the ability of taking this game over.
