The Bonnies finished the 2021-22 season with 23 victories and a Final Four appearance in the NIT. However, St. Bonaventure took a step back last season with a 14-18 mark and 8-10 record in the Atlantic 10.
This season, the two games for the Bonnies have been decided by a total of seven points, although they closed as 11.5-point favorites each time. The Bonnies squeezed past Longwood, 73-69, in the season opener. The Lancers shot 39% from the floor, including a 3-for-17 effort from 3-point range.
The Bonnies weren’t so fortunate in their next game, a 70-62 home defeat to Canisius, a rival whose campus is 80 miles away. It not only marked the second straight season that St. Bonaventure lost to this MAAC school, but the Bonnies couldn’t hold onto a nine-point lead early in the second half.
