The Texas Longhorns and Cincinnati Bearcats meet for the first time as Big 12 foes on Tuesday at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Longhorns are seeking their first conference win after getting tripped up at home by Texas Tech on Saturday. That loss dropped their ATS record to 4-10.
The Bearcats were victorious in their Big 12 debut, surprising BYU on the road, 71-60, as 10-point underdogs.
Texas began the season 16th in the KenPom rankings, but it's dipped down to 39th following its third loss. The Longhorns’ first two losses came to a pair of Big East powers (Marquette, UConn).
Texas took care of its business in the non-conference with 11 victories. However, eight wins came against teams ranked 200th or lower in the nation.
We all know how stacked the Big 12 is this season — especially with the additions of Houston, BYU, Cincinnati and UCF — but it was an old rival that stymied the Longhorns in the conference opener.
Texas Tech went into Austin and delivered a 78-67 victory over UT as 6.5-point road favorites, marking only the second home loss for the Longhorns since the start of the 2022-2023 season.
The Longhorns led by seven points early, but they couldn’t keep the offense going, as they shot 44% from 2-point range and 6-of-18 from 3-point range.
Texas has played four games away from Austin this season, and they've gone 2-2 in those contests. Granted, one of them came in Houston (against LSU), while the other victory was an 81-80 close-shave win over an awful Louisville team in New York.
The Longhorns lost their final four road games last season, and three of those defeats came in the underdog role.

The transition to the Big 12 wasn’t easy for the Cincinnati football team (it went 1-8 in conference play). However, it took the basketball squad just one Big 12 game to slide into the win column, as it upset BYU, 71-60, as 10-point road underdogs on Saturday.
The Bearcats overcame a 10-point deficit early in the second half to outscore the run-and-gun Cougars 47-26 over the final 19:40 for their 12th win of the season. Viktor Lakhin led UC with 17 points, and the Bearcats held the Cougars to 13-of-46 shooting from 3-point range.
Cincinnati snapped a four-game ATS slide with its win and cover at BYU, as seven of its eight ATS losses have come as a favorite of 12 points or more.
The win over BYU was by far the signature triumph for Wes Miller’s team, which had earlier losses to in-state foes Dayton and Xavier. Cincinnati’s second-best victory of the season came against Georgia Tech, while the other 10 wins were against teams ranked 130th or worse, according to KenPom.
Cincinnati’s top scorers this season are Dan Skillings, Jr. (11.1 PPG) and Day Day Thomas (10.9 PPG). However, Skillings has scored 11 points or less in seven of the past eight games, while Thomas is averaging 9.5 points per game in the last 10.
Texas vs. Cincinnati
Betting Pick & Prediction
It would seem obvious for Texas to bounce back off the home loss to Texas Tech and for Cincinnati to have a letdown after the BYU win.
It's hard to ignore Texas' struggles away from Austin dating back to last season, though.
This will be the Longhorns' first trip to Cincinnati, and the Bearcats are looking for another signature win after a couple of whiffs against Xavier and Dayton.
Pick: Cincinnati -4.5 (Play to -5.5)
