We've addressed what happens to the over, under, moneyline and player props when an NHL game goes into overtime or a shootout.

But what about team totals?

Team totals allow you to wager on how many goals a given team will score in that game. Some sportsbooks make the rules curiously difficult to decipher, though, regarding whether they're 60-minute lines or if they include overtime and shootouts.

Each sportsbook has different house rules.

DraftKings, for instance, does a good job of clearly laying out whether a team total is valid only in regulation or if it also includes overtime/shootouts. Of course, you'll get more value on the over for the "excluding overtime" market and vice versa for the under.

At BetMGM, same idea insofar that they clearly label that overtime and shootouts are included in their team total markets. The book doesn't offer any "excluding overtime" marketplace for team totals.

But Caesars, for instance, gives no explicit indication of their team-total market as to whether overtime is included in its calculations. It is, and so are shootouts. The book gives no option for team totals that exclude overtime.

Same for PointsBet, but the book does a slightly better job explaining the concept with a visible footnote in their team totals page. While the footnote says only, "including overtime" in its footnote – without mentioning shootouts – the Action Network confirmed with a spokesperson at the company that shootouts are encompassed.

Meanwhile, at FanDuel, team totals are applicable only for the first 60 minutes of regulation. It's the only major American sportsbook to not offer team totals that include overtime and shootouts.

FanDuel, however, includes overtime and shootouts in its over/under goals market.

Below is a list of major American sportsbooks and their rulings as to whether team totals include overtime and shootouts.
