The path to the Stanley Cup continues as the Edmonton Oilers head to Sin City to take on the Vegas Golden Knights in the second round. Many eyes will be on this series which features the first and second overall picks from the 2015 draft squaring off in Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel.
Both teams are red hot. After losing Game 1 to the Jets, the Knights proceeded to win four straight and enjoy a nice rest. The Oilers had a ton of close games in their series against the Kings, but they ultimately won three straight to move on.
Here’s a look at my same game parlay for Game 1 of Edmonton Oilers vs. Vegas Golden Knights.
Same Game Parlay: Edmonton Oilers vs. Vegas Golden Knights
The Parlay (+647)
- Leon Draisaitl to record 4+ shots on goal
- Jonathan Marchessault to record 2+ shots on goal
- Over 6.5 goals
- Edmonton Oilers moneyline
Leon Draisaitl to Record 4+ Shots on Goal
Outside of maybe one other player, no one has had a better postseason than Leon Draisaitl. The German forward put up elite numbers with 11 points in six games and is currently second all time in playoff points per game (1.6).
While Draisaitl had an astounding regular season, he becomes a different animal in the playoffs. He's second on the the team in High-danger Chances and generates the second-most Scoring Chances, both behind Evan Bouchard.
Not only that, Draisaitl is averaging 4.16 shots per game in these playoffs and hasn't gone below three shots in all six games played. At +116 on FanDuel, I think this is a great opportunity. He'll get his shots, especially if Vegas finds themselves in the penalty box.
Jonathan Marchessault to Record 2+ Shots on Goal
Marchessault, who usually shines bright in the postseason, hasn't had a great playoffs statistically. However, he's been generating a good amount of offense. He's been one of Vegas' most efficient players since he arrived, and even though he hasn't generated a ton of shots so far, he's second on the team in High-danger Chances, third in Expected Goals and second in Scoring Chances.
He hasn't scored a goal yet, but he'll be one of the players to keep an eye on this series. I can see Marchessault coming in with something to play for, and consequently, I have him generating two or more shots tonight.
Over 6.5 Goals
If you've paid any attention to the Oilers this season, you know there will be a ton of goals. Defensively, they've held their own, but the defense takes a ton of risks and puts themselves in a vulnerable position. When you have three 100-point players (and an 83-point scorer), goals are bound to happen. Their power play during the regular season was the best since the 70s, and they have scored 56% of the time these playoffs.
Vegas can score with the best of them too. Eichel and Chandler Stephenson have had extraordinary seasons, and having captain Mark Stone back has been huge. Stone has been a spark plug last series with eight points in five games
The goaltending situation will be interesting to monitor. Stuart Skinner is a viable netminder, but he has played to a mediocre .890 SV% and a -1.1 GSAx. Laurent Brossoit for Vegas has been exceptional though. While he has been a backup his whole career, Brossoit had a great series against Winnipeg, playing to a .915 SV% and a +1.5 GSAx. However, the Oilers are a different animal than the Jets, so I don't expect his numbers to stay where they are.
Edmonton Oilers Moneyline
Based off of recent history, the Oilers have had the Knights' number this season. They won three out of their past four meetings, and I always think the team with the most rest doesn't come in with a ton of urgency. The Knights haven't played in six days, and the Oilers haven't played in four.
To top it off, the Oilers were a better away team this regular season than the Knights were at home. Vegas also battled a Jets team that was already dealing with locker room issues. I would definitely argue that Edmonton has had the tougher road than the Knights, which is why I think the Oilers come out on top tonight.
