Here's everything you need to know about the Florida Panthers vs Dallas Stars on Tuesday, March 12 – our expert NHL prediction and pick.
These clubs last squared off at the beginning of December, a game in which Florida secured a 5-4 victory. With the Panthers entering this matchup in tremendous form, let's take a look at why I anticipate another win on Tuesday night.
Let's dig into the odds and make a Panthers vs. Stars prediction and pick in my NHL betting preview.
Florida enters this contest in tremendous form and has won 17 of its past 20 games. The Panthers are the hottest team in hockey and I will continue to ride their momentum, especially at plus-money.
One of the biggest reasons for the recent success is been the play of goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who will start between the pipes on Tuesday. Through 46 starts this season, Bobrovsky is 31-12-2 with a .918 SV% and a 2.29 GAA.
He has allowed two or fewer goals in 12 consecutive starts and is 10-2 with a commanding .945 SV% and a 1.57 GAA over that stretch. That success is likely to continue against Dallas, a team Bobrovsky has utterly dominated throughout his career with a 17-2-2 record, a .925 SV% and a 2.32 GAA.
It certainly helps his cause that he plays behind one of the best two-way teams in hockey as the Panthers rank third in expected goal differential per 60 minutes at 5-on-5.
The Stars aren't a poor team by any means and are still my pick to come out of the Western Conference. However, they haven't been playing as well as Florida, and the former ranks lower in that aforementioned expected goal differential per 60 minutes at 5-on-5.
Dallas is a very good team, but is analytically inferior to the Panthers. At 5-on-5, Florida ranks higher in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60) and expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).
The Panthers will also boast the advantage in net as Jake Oettinger is slated to guard the cage for the Stars. This season, he ranks lower than Bobrovsky in both SV% and GAA.
Oettinger has also been a lot more inconsistent, allowing three or more goals in five of his past nine starts. Over that stretch, he possesses a fade-worthy .871 SV%.
Panthers vs. Stars
Betting Pick & Prediction
Bobrovsky is a ridiculous 17-2-2 against the Stars in his career and the opposite is true for Oettinger, who is just 1-4-1 with a .896 SV% and a 3.47 GAA in his career against Florida. At plus-money, there is so much more to like about the Panthers in this game considering they are the better team offensively, defensively and in net. They're also in better form.
The one advantage Dallas possesses is that it is on home ice. However, the Stars' home win percentage this season is 61%, while Florida's road win percentage is an even stronger 70%.
