NHL Player Prop Picks: Kevin Fiala, Brent Burns, Matt Boldy & More

After going 9-0 in the previous two nights with many plus-money picks, this article got crushed last night, going 0-5. That's gambling for you.

Tonight's slate features some enticing angles to look at to bounce back with some pivotal Game 5 action.

NHL Player Props for Tuesday, April 25

Brent Burns Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (+105)

Burns has put up 16 shots in the first four games of this series, cashing this number in three of those matchups. His 31 shot attempts pace the series.

His ability to get hard wrist shots off quickly at the point has been a key strength for the Hurricanes that has led to three assists in this series.

As expected, Carolina is spending a ton of time attacking in the offensive zone. New York has done fairly well to prevent shots from the interior first and foremost, but it's settling for allowing a plethora of point shots.

I'm not expecting things to change drastically in Game 5 of this matchup. This is a great price to go back to the well with a prop that has been very profitable so far.

Matt Boldy Any Time Goal Scorer (+230)

Boldy had a full-fledged breakout with the Wild this season with 31 goals in 81 regular-season matchups. He was notably strong down the stretch with Kirill Kaprizov sidelined and entered the postseason in excellent form.

However, his three assists so far in this series could be a sign that acclimating to postseason life is not going very well. I don't believe that's the case, though. The problem has been an uncharacteristically tough time finishing.

Boldy's 17 shots on goal in the series are the most by any player who has not scored this postseason. Considering his finishing ability and the number of looks he has generated, I like the chances a breakthrough comes tonight.

I will also note that bet365's +240 is technically the best price available. However, bet365's "any time" goal scorer prices actually don't count overtime and should be listed as "regulation" to save disappointment.

Wyatt Johnston Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+126) · Any Time Goal Scorer (+310)

Dallas' second line of Jamie Benn, Evgenii Dadonov and Wyatt Johnston has been dominant so far in this series. They've controlled play to a 54.2% expected goals share, and most importantly for these bets, that mark comes while generating 3.53 xGoals per 60 minutes.

Johnston has generated 1.6 individual expected goals in the series, with the majority of those coming in the two matchups in Dallas. He scored 24 regular-season goals and will finish looks at an above-average rate over a large sample.

Counting overtime in Game 1, Johnston recorded 12 shots on goal in the first two games of this series in Dallas. This number of +126 is a tremendous price to record three shots considering his usage, willingness to shoot and play so far in this series.

Splitting a unit between that and any time goal is the way I'll attack this.

Kevin Fiala Any Time Goal Scorer (+230) · Gabriel Vilardi Over 0.5 Points (+105)

Kevin Fiala looked excellent in his return to game action Sunday for the Kings. He skated 21:33 and generated two assists and three shots on goal on a line with Gabriel Vilardi and Alex Iafallo.

Los Angeles' "third" line is an extremely strong unit comprised of three extremely underrated players. This is a clear advantage the Kings have over the Oilers. If this line spends minutes going head-to-head with bottom-tier Oilers defenders and third or fourth forward lines, it will continue to dominate.

A case is there to play any prop from the three, particularly Vilardi and Fiala, who were extremely dangerous in Game 4.

Fiala is a very talented scorer who will do damage both at even strength and on the power play. L.A. generated quality looks for Fiala last time out, and I bet they'll be there again tonight.

Vilardi could easily end up with a point on Fiala's goal if that's the case.
