The Oilers will continue their quest to be only the second team in NHL history to comeback from three games down in the Stanley Cup Final. Game 5 was arguably the best game of this postseason, and saw the Oilers pull to within one game lead by an otherworldly performance by Connor McDavid.
There looks to be compelling cases for both sides ahead of Game 6, and it feels easy to see either team emerging victorious in this matchup. I've zeroed in one potential game script for my SGP, which prices out at +525 on Bet365.
This is a long-shot for a reason, so play responsibly and don't stake this the same way you would a single game.
Panthers vs. Oilers SGP | Game 6 Pick
My Panthers vs Oilers same-game parlay for tonight is a three-legger.
- First Period Under 1.5 Goals -115
- Stuart Skinner Under 26.5 Saves (-120)
- Sam Reinhart Under 2.5 Shots on Goal (+115)
Parlay Odds: +525 via bet365
One of the more consistent trends in the NHL this postseason has been Games 6 and 7 averaging far lower totals than the rest of the series; and lower than oddsmakers are expecting. Game 6 and 7 unders are 10-1-1 this postseason, and the first period under is 10-2, including six which were scoreless altogether.
Players generally look to ease into spots like this making conservative and safe plays, while attention-to-detail defensively is always at the forefront of the game plan.
It feels a little scarier to follow this trend in this particular series, but there are still some arguments working in it's favor.
Stuart Skinner has played quietly well in this series, and was really sharp early on in Game 5 when the Panthers came out with a flurry of early chances. The Oilers haven't been allowing a high quantity of chances, and have cleaned up some of the defensive zone breakdowns that plagued them early in the series.
Edmonton has allowed only 26.4 shots per 60 in this series, and has done a pretty solid job defensively apart from Game 3.
The Panthers have proven to be the best defensive team in the league this season, and should play to that strength as they look to avoid a historic collapse. Sergei Bobrovsky has had two bad nights in a row, but it still seems very reasonable to think he will save the chances he is supposed to in this matchup.
As noted earlier, the Oilers have tidied up their defensive game considerably, and are not allowing much in terms of quantity. The Panthers generated 32 shots on goal in Game 5, but trailed by numerous goals for the vast majority of the contest. The Panthers are generating below 26.5 shots on goal in the series, and tonight's game seems likely to be more tightly contested than average.
If this game remains with tied score-lines or even potentially leading scorelines for Florida, this save prop should prove to be a touch high and works well with the rest of our parlay.
It's been a quiet final for Reinhart, who has been one Florida skater in particular that has owned far less of the play than usual, and has struggled in minutes head-to-head with the Oilers top-line.
Reinhart has averaged just two shots a game in the series, and has gone under this line in three of five matchups. The price to bet the under 2.5 (+115) looks to be a touch too high for this specific matchup, and seems to be largely based on his season-long body of work.
This is a good way to round out our SGP, where we are targeting a low event game involving a low total of Panthers shots on target.
