NHL Predictions: SGP for Oilers vs. Stars Game 2
My Oilers vs. Stars same-game parlay for Game 2 is a three-legger and will focus on the Stars, a player prop, and a total.
The SGP's trio of bets includes:
- Dallas Stars Moneyline (-142)
- Wyatt Johnston Anytime Goalscorer (+180)
- Game Total Over 5.5 (-128)
Stars Moneyline
It was a heartbreaking loss for Dallas in double overtime of Game 1, but I just don't see the superior all-around team in this series dropping both of its first two games at home. At 5-on-5, the Stars outrank the Oilers this postseason in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60), expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60) and expected goal differential per 60 minutes.
Yes, Edmonton has the more "name brand" superstars, but Dallas is the deeper team with more talent all around. Additionally, the Stars are likely to see the return of Roope Hintz on Saturday.
Yes, Hintz struggled while dealing with an injury in the postseason thus far, but now he should be well rested and ready to contribute in a top-six forward role in which he has done so well over the past few years. I also trust Jake Oettinger in net far more than Stuart Skinner.
This postseason, Oettinger clears Skinner in both SV% and GAA.
Johnston Anytime Goalscorer
If we are backing the Stars to win, then we obviously need some of their skaters to find the back of the net. Enter forward Wyatt Johnston.
Johnston has been, by far, Dallas' strongest forward this postseason, which is pretty remarkable given that he just turned 21 years old during the playoffs. He leads the team in both goals and shots on goal as he continues to make life difficult for opposing defenses.
While he failed to find the back of the net in Game 1, we should expect Johnston to get back on track in Game 2 against Edmonton, a team that he scored against in three of the previous five meetings prior to Game 1.
Over 5.5
If we are backing goalscorers, then another correlated outcome is the over. I alluded to my distrust of Skinner in the above section.
Yes, Skinner has been solid recently, but this is still a netminder with a mere .888 SV% this postseason. He also plays behind a blue line that bleeds high-danger scoring chances.
This postseason, Edmonton ranks in the bottom half of the 16 playoff teams in xGA/60 at 5-on-5. If Dallas is able to take advantage and score three to four goals, then we should have no issue going over the total in Game 2 because we know Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are likely to generate at least two goals on the other end.
