A rare 10-game Monday slate in the NHL provides some really enticing betting options, and some of my favorite looks are even coming in the more interesting matchups in terms of playoff seeding.
Let's dive right into my top three NHL player props for Monday's games.
NHL Player Props For Monday, April 10
Mark Scheifele Over 2.5 Shots On Goal (+112) · Any Time Goalscorer (+158)
Team vs. Team | Sharks vs. Jets |
Puck Drop | 7 p.m. ET |
Best Line | FanDuel |
Since being called out by head coach Rick Bowness for soft performances in a 3-0 loss to the Sharks, Mark Scheifele and the other Jets stars have responded quite well with some big performances to help solidify a likely playoff berth.
We were on Scheifele to score in the first game after that disappointing loss to Detroit, and a lot of the same logic holds true tonight against San Jose, especially as Scheifele has played fairly well since that point.
Aside from a poor showing in a very defensive game versus Calgary, Scheifele has really picked up his level and scored a huge goal versus Nashville for his 40th of the season Saturday.
He's been trending below 2.5 shots on goal over the last five, but those games have featured some stout defensive competition and will likely be somewhat of an anomaly from a 40-goal scorer who's skating on a top line and in the top power play.
In a matchup against a lowly Sharks side, I believe Scheifele and the Jets' top line is going to generate a lot of chances and find the scoresheet in this spot. Backing Scheifele to record over 2.5 shots on goal and to score any time at +158 are my favorite looks, but backing either Pierre-Luc Dubois or Kyle Connor to score are very reasonable options as well.
Pick: Mark Scheifele Any Time Goal Scorer (+158) |
Tom Wilson Over 2.5 Shots On Goal (+112)
Team vs. Team | Islanders vs. Capitals |
Puck Drop | 7 p.m. ET |
Best Line | FanDuel |
Washington has lost six consecutive games in relatively convincing fashion and will take the ice Monday with just 17 skaters in the lineup due to a number of key injuries.
Things have been very bleak the last month for the Capitals, but Wilson has consistently been very involved and has offered a rare bright spot. With Alex Ovechkin and TJ Oshie sidelined he is holding down a rare spot on the team's top power-play unit, and is skating more minutes at even strength as well.
Washington may not generate many offensive chances tonight, but it's logical that Wilson will be involved in the moments it does. He could easily end up skating over 20 minutes considering the team's heavily-depleted roster.
He has generated 32 shots over the last 10 games, cashing the over 2.5 seven times. I do not believe those marks will trend down considering his usage and level of play right now. Oddsmakers haven't adjusted his shot prop odds enough compared to earlier in the season with the over 2.5 priced at +112.
Pick: Tom Wilson Over 2.5 Shots On Goal (+112) |
Juuse Saros Over 31.5 Saves
Team vs. Team | Predators vs. Flames |
Puck Drop | 9:30 p.m. ET |
Best Line | N/A |
The vast majority of Flames games continue to follow the same script, which has seen Calgary's opposing goaltenders soaring past pre-game save props. Oddsmakers just don't seem to adjust the numbers enough, and I'm predicting that to be the case again tonight with Juuse Saros' saves prop at 31.5 (-130) or 32.5 at near plus-money.
Calgary continues to pepper pucks on goal in the vast majority of matchups. It's an elite side in terms of generating shots on net but is not elite at converting those opportunities into actual goals. Saros and the Predators make for a perfect matchup for that trend to continue, and we will likely see this game remain close even if Calgary carries a ton of the overall play.
Nashville has allowed 93 shots on goal over the last three games and does not have the bodies in the lineup to carry much of the play. However, it's had the right approach looking to hang in games while allowing the kinds of chances Saros can handle.
Pick: Juuse Saros Over 31.5 Saves
