Colts vs. Texans odds have Indianapolis barely favored on the road in Week 2.
If you compare rookie quarterbacks after one week, a majority would say that Anthony Richardson emerged as the top performer. His athleticism was on display and he was competent when passing the ball. All around he had a solid performance. He'll look to keep it going in Week 2 against C.J. Stroud.
Let's break down the matchup and make a Colts vs. Texans pick.
Last week, Richardson got it done on the ground, rushing 10 times for 40 yards. Some of these rushes weren’t just a product of Richardson getting flushed out of the pocket though. The Colts drew up a few designed runs for the rookie, and it is apparent that this will be a part of the game plan moving forward.
We know that the Texans struggled against the run last year. They allowed the most rush yards by a large margin. They allowed over 200 more rushing yards than the Chicago, who allowed the second most rushing yards.
Using a small sample size of one game, Pro Football Focus has the Texans’ run defense rated as the seventh-worst unit, a total rating of 52.8.
This inefficiency defending the run is not new to Houston, and it seems the problems are leaking over from last year. Will Anderson has provided a small improvement, but Houston’s rush defense problem is much bigger than one man.
Bet Indianapolis vs. Houston at FanDuel
The Texans' issues with defending the run opens up the run game for the Colts, but their best running back is out. This is where Richardson steps in.
Indianapolis will identify this inefficiency in the Texans defense and design even more run plays for Richardson. In addition to the designed runs, there will be plenty of chances for Richardson to escape the pocket and put his explosiveness on display.
Richardson is the first mobile quarterback the AFC South has seen in recent years. Teams like the Texans, Titans and Jaguars will take some time to get acclimated to defending a run-capable quarterback. It could take a whole season before teams get a grasp on how to stop the quarterback run game.
I don’t expect the Texans to have an answer for Richardson quite yet.

Betting Picks & Predictions
Richardson will have to learn that as a QB in this league, you can’t consistently take hits. He struggled with that concept in Week 1.
This week against the Texans, he will have the chance to practice giving himself up as a part of the Colts’ game plan, which will be run first, and run often.
Last week, Houston allowed Lamar Jackson to run six times for 38 yards, averaging 6.3 rush yards per attempt. Against Jacksonville, Richardson rushed for 40 yards on 10 attempts, including a fair share of designed runs.
I expect the play-callers in Indianapolis to get Richardson going on the ground and test that inconsistent Texans rush defense.
