Iowa State pulled off a road upset against rival No. 21 Iowa to capture this season’s Cy-Hawk Trophy on Saturday.

Cyclones kicker Kyle Konrardy converted a 54-yard field goal with six seconds left, clinching a 20-19 victory for Iowa State.

Hawkeye fans were left stunned at the result. Iowa, which entered the weekend as a 2.5-point favorite, had jumped out to a 19-7 lead late in the third quarter when running back Kaleb Johnson scored a 3-yard touchdown. But the Cyclones rallied, scoring 13 unanswered points to beat their instate rival.

Saturday marked the first time since 2017 that the Cy-Hawk game eclipsed the over total, which was set at 35.5. Entering this weekend, the under had gone 15-3 across its last 18 meetings, per Action Network’s Evan Abrams.

After winning six straight Cy-Hawk meetings from 2015 through 2021, Iowa has now lost two of its last three contests against Iowa State.

Quarterback Rocco Becht, who went 23-of-35 for 272 yards, two touchdowns and one pick, guided the Cyclones on their go-ahead drive. Becht twice found receiver Jaylin Noel (five catches, 133 yards, one TD) along the sideline for big gains, including a 30-yard pass that helped set up Kanrardy’s game-winner.
