Chris Altruda
Summary
Chris is a Senior Analyst at Better Collective US and his focus is breaking down monthly sports betting revenue figures from state agencies across the United States. His guilty pleasure is listening to Iron Maiden while compiling these reports, but he has also recently branched into power metal with a Japanese tilt highlighted by Lovebites, Babymetal, and Hanabie.
Experience
Prior to joining Better Collective in November 2019, Chris acquired more than two decades worth of experience at three national sports news wire services. His first stop was SportsTicker, which was acquired by ESPN shortly after he joined in 1994. He moved to The Associated Press at its New York headquarters in 1999, and made the jump to Chicago in 2005 when The AP and STATS (now known as STATS Perform) entered a joint venture for editorial content. The common thread at all three places was writing game previews for professional and college sports. Chris freelanced from 2016 until 2019, when Better Collective took a chance on him after he had written less than five articles about sports betting legislation and the industry.
Education
Chris graduated from Marquette University in 1994 with a degree in broadcast and electronic communication while minoring in history.
