The NBA is currently composed of 30 teams that are equally divided between two conferences and six divisions. While there has been much alignment and realignment of the conferences and divisions over the years, the current NBA team structure looks to be settled, at least for a few years. Each division houses five NBA teams, typically within the same general region of the country, but not always. Every team plays every other team in the NBA throughout the course of the regular season, regardless of conference. Teams in the same division, though, play each other four times over the course of the year. This makes for many of the fierce rivalries and great matchups that NBA fans have come to love. Here is how the conferences and divisions are currently organized.
Eastern Conference
The Eastern Conference holds a slight overall edge over the Western Conference in NBA Championships won with 38 compared to 34. The East is home to the current NBA Champions, Milwaukee Bucks, who are among the favorites to win the 2022 NBA Finals.

Western Conference
The Western Conference is home to some of the most dominant franchise dynasties in NBA history. The likes of the Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, and Golden State Warriors have dominated the league most recently in the minds of current NBA fans. Many think the Warriors can come back or that the Phoenix Suns could be the next team to dominate.
