Charlie Wright's Angels vs Braves Pick

I’m surprised we’re getting José Soriano and the Angels as underdogs in the first five innings in this spot.

Soriano had a miserable start last time out, allowing 8 earned runs against Washington. However, prior to his latest outing, he posted a dominant 3-start stretch of only 2 earned runs allowed over 20.2 innings pitched.

Soriano’s SIERA is a solid 3.82, and his xFIP is down at 3.47. He even showed some strikeout upside in June, with 35 Ks across 28.1 innings.

On the flip side, Bryce Elder was pounded last month, posting an 8.25 ERA over 5 starts. He’s allowed 18 earned runs over his last 3 starts, including 5 home runs.

Elder had an 8:8 strikeout-to-walk ratio during that span. He’d probably be back in the minors if Atlanta’s rotation wasn’t so banged up.

Angels vs Braves Prediction, Betting Analysis

The Braves has struggled mightily on offense recently, ranking bottom 5 in OPS, wOBA, and wRC+ against right-handed pitching since the start of June.

The Angels have been middling against right-handers, but there’s plenty of power in the lineup.

Tonight’s projected group has 5 hitters with ISOs of .188 or higher against RHP this season.

Pick: Angels F5 ML (+105)
