The Houston Astros are four games back in the American League West and clinging to a wild-card spot in the American League.

Things aren't going quite as well for the Oakland Athletics this season, as you might've heard. Oakland has the worst record in all of baseball at 27-72 and are 32 games back in the American League West entering play Friday.

While Oakland is a long shot to win — as they are nearly every night — we can still build out a Same Game Parlay around this game tonight.

The Parlay (+430):

  • Framber Valdez Over 7.5 Strikeouts
  • JP Sears Over 4.5 Strikeouts
  • Astros Moneyline

Same-Game Parlay – Astros vs Athletics

Framber Valdez Over 7.5 Strikeouts

Framber Valdez left his last start in the seventh inning with a mild calf injury, but by that point he had already recorded 13 strikeouts against the Los Angeles Angels.

This is a high number, but we're getting plus odds on Valdez against a bottom-of-the-league offense in Oakland.

Valdez has gone over this number in two of his last five starts. He's been under this number in his two previous starts against Oakland this season with five and seven strikeouts.

JP Sears Over 4.5 Strikeouts

If anything, this number is low for JP Sears at this point in the season. He has a 23% strikeout percentage and 100 strikeouts in 106 innings. Sears has gone over this number in six of his last eight starts, though.

While the Astros have a reputation for not striking out very much, their lineup is still without mainstays Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez. Sears is facing them at the right time.

He faced Houston earlier this season and recorded seven strikeouts in that outing.

Astros Moneyline

While I expect Sears to have a pretty good start here, I still expect the Astros to win the game. Houston has the better lineup and Oakland still has the worst bullpen in the entire league.

While Houston is on the road, the Astros are eighth in runs per game on the road averaging 5.18 runs per game on the road this season.

With Valdez on the mound, Houston's offense won't need to score that many runs to get the job done here.
