This tilt between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Angels is the only night matchup that pits two teams with records above .500 against each other.
The Blue Jays enter play on Friday at 4-3 while the Angels are 4-2. It's still very early in the season, but both of these teams figure to at least be in the Wild Card mix in the American League. That would certainly be an exciting development for the Angels as Los Angeles has made the playoffs only once since 2009. That came in 2014 when they were swept in the first round by the Kansas City Royals.
The Blue Jays also have high hopes after remaking their lineup in the offseason with the additions of Daulton Varsho, Brandon Belt and Kevin Kiermaier.

Same-Game Parlay – Blue Jays vs. Angels
Chris Bassit Under 4.5 Strikeouts
Bassitt has never been a big-time strikeout pitcher. His career high single season strikeout percentage is 25% in 2021 with Oakland, but his career strikeout percentage is 21%.
My projections see him having an 18% strikeout percentage this year. In his first start of the season, though, Bassitt's strikeout percentage was 0%. He failed to record even one strikeout against the St. Louis Cardinals as he was pounded for 10 hits and four home runs as he allowed nine earned runs without making it out of the fourth innings.
Bassitt wasn't missing bats hardly at all in that start as he induced just four whiffs on 57 pitches thrown. The Angels aren't a strikeout-heavy lineup as their projected lineup collectively had just a 22% strikeout percentage against right-handed pitching last year.
The current line of 4.5 isn't the highest number for strikeouts, but I have Bassitt projected for only four strikeouts here.
Shohei Ohtani 2+ Total Bases
If Bassitt's struggles from his first start carry over to this one, then we have to like Shohei Ohtani here.
Bassit was hit around in his first start, but notably didn't walk anyone. Maybe that changes here because pitchers generally become more cautious when their pitches are getting tattooed by their opponents, but that wasn't the case in Bassitt's first start.
Last season, Bassitt allowed a .160 ISO to left-handed hitters compared to just an .098 ISO allowed to right-handed hitters. Ohtani is the best left-handed hitter on the Angels and had a .273 ISO against right-handed pitching last year so we have to like him in this spot.
Angels -1.5
The theory of this same game parlay so far is that the Angels will attack Bassit in a similar way to how the Cardinals did in his first start. If that happens, they shouldn't have trouble putting the Blue Jays away at home here.
Starter Patrick Sandoval's xFIP of 4.28 last year was in the same range as Bassit's 4.21 xFIP, but he was much sharper in his first start of the year, allowing only two hits to the Oakland Athletics in five innings.
The Angels should have the starting pitcher advantage and the Blue Jays lineup isn't as strong against left-handed pitchers like Sandoval. Brandon Belt and Kevin Kiermaier probably won't be in the lineup tonight and the Blue Jays projected lineup had a combined ISO of .166 against left-handed pitching last year compared to .182 against right-handed pitching.
