Red Sox vs Yankees Preview, Prediction
The Red Sox have been struggling to get going coming into this matchup, racking up a 3-7 record over their last 10 games.
Two big reasons behind their recent struggles are the loss of Alex Bregman in the middle of their order and some regression from their bullpen.
As they enter this rivalry series, their lineup has a tough starting assignment in Will Warren of the New York Yankees. Warren had an excellent month of May until the final day of the month, when he was rocked by the Dodgers for seven earned runs and didn't make it out of the second inning.
However, that one bad outing doesn't put much of a damper on the positive regression we've seen and should continue to see from him. Warren's strikeout upside is high, and when his command is sharp, he has the potential to be lights-out.
Behind him, the Yankees' bullpen has been excellent, ranking fifth in SIERA and sixth in xFIP. Additionally, the bullpen is relatively fresh because they weren't used much in the series against Cleveland.
None of this bodes well for the Red Sox, who have been sliding statistically at the plate.
As for the Yankees, they're trending up. The Bronx Bombers have won seven of their last 10 games, and the men on the mound are a big reason why.
However, we've seen the bats cool down a bit over the past two weeks, as their ISO during that span comes in at .170 — 17% lower than their season average.
A cooled-off Yankees lineup is great news for Red Sox starter Walker Buehler.
Buehler hasn't had the best start to his campaign in Boston, but he's due for some positive regression coming into this outing thanks to his ability to generate soft contact and strand runners.
Working around traffic and keeping the ball in the park is the best way to contain the Yankees, and Buehler has been solid in both areas.
While it wouldn't be surprising to see the Yankees get a ball or two into the short porch, Buehler should be trusted to limit the damage.
Red Sox vs Yankees Pick, Betting Analysis
This series is always a must-watch. While the Red Sox's recent struggles have it lacking the luster it once had, there's no doubt this rivalry brings out the best in both clubs.
We should see that intensity flourish on the mound. Both starters are primed for success, and the bullpens behind them haven't fluctuated much.
