White Sox vs Rangers Pick, Betting Analysis
Editor's Note: This written pick is a transcription from today's episode of the Payoff Pitch Podcast.
The MLB overs have been a bonanza since late May, but in particular, at Globe Life Field.
Globe Life has seen the most dramatic increase of batted balls distance amongst all the parks. Earlier this year, it was playing close to T-Mobile Park, roughly 15% below the major league average. Now it's playing around eight to 10 percent below the major league average.
Those balls that were consistently dying at the warning track are now going into the stands, and you can't blame it all on temperature.
And if there's going be more home runs hit in this park, it's going to favor the Texas Rangers, who have a pitcher on the mound who's more likely to suppress homers. Erick Fedde has a much worse home run per nine and home-run-per-fly-ball-rate.
DeGrom's strikeout minus walk rate is nearly four times Fedde's strikeout minus walk rate.
I don't love the Rangers' bullpen, but I don't show value across the first five — otherwise, I would bet that.
But hopefully deGrom can pitch into the sixth or the seventh and alleviate some of those concerns.
Also, in my daily baseball betting column, I highlight my top projected moneyline and total edges from our new PRO baseball betting tool, B.A.R.T.O.L.O.
So, there's a clear edge in this Monday first-place clash.
With the moneyline projected around -193 in favor of Texas, we're getting a +3.5% edge on deGrom and company and a 65.8% chance of victory.
I would only bet this one up to -176, but again, there's clear value on this one.
Pick: Rangers ML -172
