The Colorado Rockies made headlines for all the wrong reasons last Saturday night after a 25-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. Colorado is one game ahead of the Washington Nationals for the worst record in the National League entering play Tuesday.

Once again, the Rockies will face a Los Angeles team at Coors Field. This time, though, it's their division rival and a better team in the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers will be starting Clayton Kershaw, their future Hall of Fame pitcher who the Rockies infamously passed on in the 2006 MLB Draft. The Dodgers are understandably heavily favored in this one, but let's see if we can find a parlay that'll make this game more entertaining.

The Parlay (+481):

  • Clayton Kershaw Over 5.5 Strikeouts
  • Freddie Freeman 4+ Total Bases
  • Dodgers -1.5

Same-Game Parlay – Los Angeles Dodgers vs Colorado Rockies

Clayton Kershaw Over 5.5 Strikeouts

Coors Field isn't anyone's favorite place to pitch. It's certainly a hitters' park given the elevation and the impact it has on breaking pitches.

Clayton Kershaw's velocity isn't what it once was during his peak so he does rely more heavily on his off-speed stuff at this point in his career. Still, he's one of the best pitchers in all of baseball and he's taking on the Rockies.

Kershaw has a 31% strikeout rate against right-handed hitters this season and the Rockies have just one left-handed hitter in their projected lineup tonight. Colorado's projected lineup has also combined for a 29% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this year.

Kershaw should be able to get his six strikeouts here.

Freddie Freeman 4+ Total Bases

Connor Seabold will be on the mound for the Rockies in this one. Seabold has allowed a .223 ISO and .356 wOBA to left-handed hitters this season. Freddie Freeman is the best left-handed hitter the Dodgers have.

He has a .174 ISO and .385 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. Freeman is also hitting .322 with nine home runs away from Dodgers Stadium this year. He can cover this leg of the same-game parlay in a number of ways, but the simplest would be a home run or two doubles. He's in a great spot to do some damage against Seabold tonight. Colorado also has the seventh-worst bullpen ERA in all of baseball at 4.55 entering play Tuesday.

Dodgers -1.5

It's probably not a big surprise that I'm including the Dodgers run line in this same-game parlay. The Dodgers are simply a much better team than Colorado. Los Angeles has a big advantage here in the starting pitching department with Kershaw going up against Seabold. The Dodgers are sixth in all of baseball with 5.29 runs per game on the road this season.

While Colorado is seventh in all of baseball with 5.05 runs per game at home this season, they don't have to face Kershaw at home every night. The Dodgers' bullpen ERA is actually worse than the Rockies' at 4.88, but the lineup and starting pitcher advantage should be enough to overcome that tonight.
