Dodgers Betting Preview: Tough Test in Crochet
The Los Angeles Dodgers flexed their muscle in Game 1 of this series and made the most of limited opportunities against Brayan Bello. Teoscar Hernandez's two-run homer put them ahead for good.
However, tonight the long ball will be minimized as they must contend with Garrett Crochet. The Red Sox's young left-hander has been lethal this year as he enters with a 2.19 ERA and 1.06 WHIP.
Crochet has ascended into the game's elite tier of starting pitchers, as he is not just a power pitcher. His command has improved drastically and generated soft contact at a very high rate.
While the Dodgers' lineup was one lefties would fear in 2024, the same cannot be said for 2025. Yes, they still have plenty of pop, but it's been all or nothing as their team BABIP against lefties is just .280.
Even if that number can be attributed to some bad luck, they are still striking out at an above-average rate against lefties this season, and with their power in question for this one, we could see a quiet first few times through the order.
Red Sox Betting Preview: Poised to Pounce on Declining Kershaw
On the other side of this matchup, the Red Sox get to face a great lefty in his own right, and many would argue he's the greatest left-handed pitcher of this generation.
However, it's clear after many injury-riddled seasons that Clayton Kershaw is in the twilight of his career.
Kershaw has not missed many bats this season, as his strikeout rate is at a career-low 16.2 percent. A majority of that contact has been loud, as his hard-hit rate allowed is in the 16th percentile.
These are not numbers you want to take into a start against the Red Sox, as they have crushed lefties this season. Boston ranks third in wRC+ against lefties and first in BABIP.
Kershaw's xERA of 4.23 suggests significant regression is coming, and we should see it begin tonight.
