Matchup | Blake Snell vs. Justin Steele |
First Pitch | 7:40 p.m. ET |
Today, we head to iconic Wrigley Field to uncover value in the No Runs First Inning (NRFI) market as the San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs face off.
Last season, Blake Snell boasted an impressive 21-3 NRFI record, with an 8-1 road NRFI split. The veteran demonstrated exceptional skill when facing batters for the first time through the order, limiting them to a mere .163 average. Although Snell's 2023 numbers are somewhat inflated due to control issues, he has consistently held the Cubs' hitters at bay: Cody Bellinger at 1-9, Ian Happ at 0-4, and Trey Mancini at 3-10.
On the other side of the NRFI equation, Justin Steele of the Cubs has been equally remarkable. Last season, Steele achieved a 20-4 NRFI record with a stellar 13-1 home NRFI split. In 2023, Steele has continued to excel, allowing just six hits in 31 at-bats, resulting in a .194 average when facing batters for the first time through the order. Although Steele has had limited appearances against these Padres hitters, he has successfully contained them: Manny Machado at 0-3, Trent Grisham at 1-3, Nelson Cruz at 1-2 and Ha-Seong Kim at 1-3.
Wrigley Field is notorious for its unpredictable winds, which can have a significant impact on the game. Today, with winds producing gusts up to 15 mph, we can anticipate that it will act as a suppressor for potential home runs and extra-base hits. This wind factor, combined with the impressive NRFI records of both Snell and Steele offer terrific value for the NRFI.
The best odds available on this NRFI as of writing are at DraftKings where it is -130.
As always, six outs to glory…
