Despite high expectations coming into the year and multiple Hall of Famers on their pitching staff, this season has been a tremendous disappointment for the New York Mets. The Mets find themselves a whopping 18.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East division entering play Sunday.

The San Francisco Giants missed the playoffs last year, but find them themselves only trailing the Arizona Diamondbacks by three and a half games in the National League West division.

Who will get the job done under the bright lights of Sunday Night Baseball and pull out the victory?

The Parlay (+431):

  • Pete Alonso to Record a Hit
  • David Peterson Over 5.5 Strikeouts
  • Mets -1.5

Same-Game Parlay – New York Mets vs San Francisco Giants

Pete Alonso to Record a Hit

June wasn't a good month for Pete Alonso to say the least. He returned quickly from an injury, but only hit .152 in 66 at-bats. Unless he's still hurt, that can't go on for much longer.

Alonso has a good matchup tonight against Giants starter Ross Stripling. Stripling has allowed a .316 ISO and .397 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season. Alonso has a .283 ISO and .346 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season.

David Peterson Over 5.5 Strikeouts

Peterson's season is emblematic of the Mets' season overall. Last year, Peterson had a 3.46 ERA and this year his ERA is 7.00. His xFIP of 3.46 isn't bad at all, though, so it should begin to turn around sooner rather than later.

The Giants like to take advantage of platoons so expect them to stack the lineup with right-handed hitters, which should actually help Peterson's upside. He has a 24.8% strikeout rate against right-handed batters this season. Peterson has gone over this number in four of his nine starts this season.

Mets -1.5

While it might be too little too late for the Mets after they went 7-19 in June, I think they have a good chance at a big win tonight. Peterson is due for better results on the mound and Stripling is hittable, giving New York the advantage on the mound.

The Mets also have the better lineup. They have had some bad luck recently with their bullpen blowing leads late in the game. If they can just hold on for the win here, they'll cover the last leg of our same-game parlay.
