The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports, but Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes noted recently that the rivalry isn't what it used to be. Cortes mentioned that the Yankees have more of a rivalry with the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays at this point.
I think he has a point that the rivalry with the Red Sox has suffered as Boston has overhauled its rostered in recent years by losing players like Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, J.D. Martinez and Nathan Eovaldi.
It's natural in sports that there will be roster turnover, but there needs to be some consistency for there to be a real rivalry. Maybe the new faces on the Red Sox will make an impact on the rivalry tonight under the lights on Sunday Night Baseball.
The Parlay (+431):
- Clarke Schmidt Over 4.5 Strikeouts
- Giancarlo Stanton 2+ Total Bases

Same-Game Parlay – New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox
Clarke Schmidt Over 4.5 Strikeouts
This line is too low for Schmidt as he's gone over this total in four of his last six starts. Schmidt has a 24% Strikeout Rate this year, but the Red Sox aren't a strikeout prone team at all. Boston's projected lineup has combined for just a 16% Strikeout Rate against right-handed pitching this season. Only three hitters in Boston's projected lineup have at least a 20% Strikeout Rate against right-handed pitching this season. Still, the strikeout upside is coming from Schmidt, who regularly exceeds this number.
Giancarlo Stanton 2+ Total Bases
Red Sox starter Brayan Bello hasn't been terrible with power prevention this year. Bello has allowed a .161 ISO to right-handed batters in 2023, which is a fairly neutral number. Still, Stanton is one of the most powerful hitters in all of baseball. In just 62 plate appearances against right-handed pitching, Stanton has an outstanding .259 ISO. We just need a double or two singles from Stanton to cover this leg of the same-game parlay.
Yankees Moneyline
The Yankees are without Aaron Judge, but they defeated the Red Sox last night with a formula they'll probably need to use again tonight if they're going to win this series. New York received a strong outing from starter Domingo German, Willie Calhoun hit a home run providing some offense, and the bullpen closed out the game in the 3-1 victory. New York has the best bullpen ERA in all of baseball at 2.76, so I'm comfortable riding with the Yankees to pull this one out late as long as the game remains close.
