On Tuesday night, the Orioles visit Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers in a clash of World Series contenders. Cole Irvin will see a familiar face in the bottom half of the first inning when Shohei Ohtani leads off for the Dodgers.
Two more hitters I'll be backing tonight are Colt Keith and Gleyber Torres.
Let's dive into Tuesday's MLB player props.
Alex Hinton's MLB Player Props (Tuesday, Aug. 27)
- Colt Keith Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + Runs Batted In (-145, DraftKings)
- Gleyber Torres Over 1.5 Total Bases (-120, DraftKings)
- Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 Total Bases (+105, DraftKings)
MLB player prop bets and MLB prop bets are becoming increasingly popular among bettors. These wagers focus on individual player performances, such as runs, home runs and strikeouts, adding excitement by allowing bettors to target specific player statistics rather than just game outcomes.
Angels vs. Tigers Player Props: Keith to Clear This Line
The Tigers thought highly enough of Keith to give him a $20+ million contract before his MLB debut. However, he got off to a slow start as he hit .154 through April and didn't record his first MLB home run until May 24.
Since then, he's looked like the highly-touted prospect that he was entering the season.
Since May 24, Keith is hitting .285 with 12 home runs, 24 extra-base hits, 38 runs batted in and 36 runs scored. He's really turned his game up of late as he's hitting .365 with seven runs and 10 runs batted in over his last 15 games.
His batting average has gotten a bump up thanks to nine two-hit games over that span. That's helped him clear this line in seven of his last nine games and 10 of his last 15.
His last four games came against the White Sox, who the Tigers swept. But the Tigers will face another AL bottom feeder when they return home to face Johnny Cueto and the Angels.
It'll be just the second start of the season for Cueto, but the 38-year-old allowed eight hits and three earned runs in 6 1/3 innings against the Royals last week.
A single and either a run or RBI gets Keith over this line again. He's also +200 for two hits on FanDuel.
Pick: Colt Keith Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + Runs Batted In (-145)
Yankees vs. Nationals Player Props: How to Back Torres
The Yankees have cycled through a few leadoff hitters this season, but lately, they've found success with Torres in the role. Torres has reached base safely in all 21 games he's played in this month and has a hit in 19 of them.
In August, he's hitting .289, and he's homered in each of the last two games.
With his matchup tonight, a third straight game with a long ball is not out of the question.
Patrick Corbin will get the ball for the Nationals tonight, and it's a matchup most hitters look forward these days. The 35-year-old is 3-12 with a 5.73 ERA. He's allowed 25 doubles, seven triples, 18 home runs and a .322 batting average to right-handed hitters this season.
Torres is 4-for-9 with two home runs and three runs batted in lifetime against Corbin. Torres is +425 for a home run on BetMGM tonight.
Even without a home run from Torres, the Yankees should tee off on Corbin tonight. Batting leadoff, Torres should have five plate appearances to hit two singles or record an extra-base hit. If he does, he'll clear this line for the fifth time in his past seven games.
Pick: Gleyber Torres Over 1.5 Total Bases (-120)
Orioles vs. Dodgers Player Props: Star to Live Up to Expectations
Last Friday, Ohtani became the sixth member of the 40-40 club in emphatic fashion with a walk-off grand slam. He followed that up with his 41st home run on Saturday before going hitless on Sunday, ending his seven-game hitting streak.
Still, Ohtani has recorded two total bases in five of his past eight games.
Tonight, he's facing a left-hander starter, but I like his chances of starting a new hitting streak. Ohtani is 8-for-27 (.296) with three doubles, two home runs, four runs batted in and a .951 OPS against Irvin.
The two of them are very familiar with each other from their AL West battles with the Angels and Athletics. Irvin also has a 4.82 ERA and 1.41 WHIP this season.
Ohtani has three two-hit games in his last five outings, and he's +185 for two hits on FanDuel tonight.
He also may very well record his bases with a long ball, and he's +400 on BetMGM for a home run tonight. That's a great value since he's rarely over +300 for a home run, especially when facing a pitcher he has multiple home runs against.
