My Prop Bet #1: Backing Ketel Marte

In Pittsburgh, Ketel Marte hit three home runs over the weekend.

It did not take him long to launch another, as he homered on the first pitch of Monday's game against the Guardians. Marte now has six home runs in his last 10 games and 28 on the year, which is tied for seventh in the MLB. Marte is +480 on FanDuel if you want to back him for Dinger Tuesday, but he is +550 on Fanatics for the best price.

Considering his matchup with Ben Lively tonight, another long ball may be in the cards for him. Marte is 3-for-5 with a triple, two home runs, and five runs batted in against Lively in his career. Lively has held left-handed hitters to a .196 opposing batting, but he has allowed them seven doubles, a triple, and eight homers. Meanwhile, 13 of Marte's have come against right-handed pitchers.

However, even without a home run tonight, Marte can still get two total bases. Over the last two weeks, he is hitting .380 with a 1.351 OPS and has a hit in nine of his last 10 games. He has had two total bases in seven of his last 10 games overall and seven of his last 10 road games. He is also hitting .318 on the road this season.

Considering these trends, I have to back Marte in a favorable matchup for him.

Pick: Ketel Marte Over 1.5 Total Bases (+120)

My Prop Bet #2: Backing Xavier Edwards

Last season, Luis Arraez won the NL batting title as the Marlins made the playoffs.

After quickly deciding 2024 would not be their season, general manager Peter Bendix traded Arraez to the Padres in May. However, it did not take the Marlins long to find his replacement in the middle of the infield and eventually atop the lineup.

A former Rays' top prospect, Xavier Edwards hit .295 in 30 games with the Marlins in 2023 but has ascended even more with more playing time this season. This season, he is hitting .383 with 19 runs scored, 13 runs batted in, a .925 OPS and 1.8 WAR. He enters tonight's game riding a nine-game hitting streak and has recorded a hit in 12 of his last 13 games. His average has increased to .431 in that span, and he has seven multi-hit games.

Edwards is +185 on FanDuel for two hits, but another multi-hit game would also clear this line. First, that will require getting his first hit against Nick Lodolo, whom he is 0-for-1 against. Lodolo has great strikeout stuff but has allowed at least six hits in each of his last three starts, including 11 against the Cubs his last time out. Edwards is also hitting .435 against left-handed pitchers this season.

With seven runs scored and five RBI, Edwards has hit this line in seven of his last eight games, averaging 2.8 hits + runs + runs batted in per game. He has also cleared this number in four straight games against the Reds.

I expect both of those trends to continue tonight.

Pick: Xavier Edwards Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-130)

My Prop Bet #3: Backing Wilyer Abreu

Header Trailing Logo

At times, Wilyer Abreu has been overshadowed by fellow rookie Ceddanne Rafaela, who is second in RBI for Boston.

However, with his play of late, Abreu has surpassed Rafaela in AL Rookie of the Year odds at +1100 on FanDuel. Over his past 15 games, Abreu is hitting .326 with 12 runs scored, four home runs, 13 batted in, and a 1.081 OPS. Two of those homers came Sunday in Texas and he is up to 12 on the year.

With another hit last night, Abreu has a hit in nine of his last 11 games. Surprisingly, he did not score or drive in one of Boston's nine runs last night and thus fell short of this line. Still, he has hit this line in seven of his last 10 games, averaging 3.4 hits + runs + runs batted in per game.

Tonight, Abreu will have a tough matchup against Seth Lugo, who is enjoying a career year. However, Abreu is 1-for-3 with an RBI against him.

If Abreu does not have a hit tonight, he can still hit this line with a combination of a walk, run scored, and sacrifice fly.

Pick: Wilyer Abreu Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (+105)
