Phillies vs Marlins MLB Betting Preview
After losing nine out of 10, the Phillies needed to return home to right the ship. They did so by winning five of their six games on their homestand, including a sweep of the Blue Jays.
They put up 6.1 runs per game on their homestand, notching 22 in the series against the Blue Jays.
Kyle Schwarber homered in Friday's win, his 22nd of the year. Nick Castellanos fueled yesterday's win with a grand slam, his third of his career against Toronto. He doesn't have a home run against Sandy Alcantara, but he's 7-for-25 (.280) against him lifetime.
Alcantara has allowed just four home runs to tonight's projected Phillies' lineup, but Castellanos is not the only Phillie to have success against him.
Trea Turner has gone 13-for-37 (.351) with two doubles, a home run and an .871 OPS against Alcantara. He has a hit in eight of his last 10 games and is hitting .300 on the nose this season.
Alec Bohm has also gone 10-for-27 (.370) with a double and triple against the Miami starter.
If the Phillies' bats get to Alcantara again, Mick Abel will be in line for a bit of run support, which would be a departure from his first three starts. The Phillies scored six runs in the first three starts of his career.
However, he kept them in the game, allowing just one run in his first two starts, and enters with a 2.35 ERA tonight. He has received just one decision so far — a 1-0 victory in which he outdueled Paul Skenes.
With the trade deadline a month away, Sandy Alcantara could be one of the starting pitchers on the move with the market looking a bit light at the moment.
However, to this point, he hasn't been the Alcantara we're used to seeing. He has posted a 7.14 ERA entering tonight's start, which is double the 3.57 mark for his career.
However, Alcantara is coming off consecutive quality starts, allowing two runs or fewer. That includes six scoreless innings while striking out six against the Pirates.
He'll look to continue that momentum tonight while the Marlins look to extend their winning streak to four.
To do so, they may need a bit more offense than they've shown so far, even during this streak.
In June, the Marlins have scored 10 runs or more twice, including Friday's win over the Nationals. However, they've scored three runs or fewer in nine of their last 13 games. They rank 23rd in runs scored for the season.
They will get their first look at Abel tonight, likely with Xavier Edwards leading off. Edwards is hitting .349 in June with three multi-hit games. He has been dangerous on the base paths this season as well, racking up 11 stolen bases in 17 attempts this season.
Meanwhile, Dane Myers is coming off three consecutive multi-hit games against the Nationals. He homered yesterday, and his four home runs thus far this season match the four he had entering the year.
Phillies vs Marlins Pick, Betting Analysis
In April, the Phillies took two out of three against the Marlins at home. One of those games was a 7-2 victory that Alcantara started.
Though he has been better of late, the Phillies are a team he has endured ups and downs against. In 20 career starts against Philadelphia, he's 6-9 with a 3.78 ERA.
Collectively, tonight's projected Phillies lineup is hitting .306 against him. If they generate traffic against him tonight, a few runs may be enough to secure a victory if the Marlins continue to struggle offensively.
In terms of resume, Alcantara certainly has the leg up over Abel. However, the rookie has been very impressive through his first three starts, and he certainly has the better team behind him. As a pick'em, I have to back the Phillies in this spot.
