This article contains predictions for an old game.

The San Francisco Giants (33-28) host the San Diego Padres (35-24) on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. First pitch from Oracle Park is scheduled for 9:45 p.m. ET; the game will be broadcast on Padres TV and NBC Sports Bay Area.

San Diego has been playing much better baseball lately and has taken the first two games in the series against San Francisco in extra innings. The Padres look to clinch a series victory on Wednesday evening with Nick Pivetta on the mound against southpaw Kyle Harrison for the Giants.

Padres Betting Preview: Tough Matchup Against Harrison

Nick Pivetta gets the start tonight for the Padres and he is having an excellent season thus far. He enters tonight with 71 strikeouts in 62 innings, with a 2.74 ERA, and a 1.01 WHIP.

In his career against San Francisco, he's allowed a .250 batting average through 60 plate appearances. The Giants are a stronger offensive team at home and have faired well against right-handers.

Pivetta has limited the walks and generated many whiffs, but his low-ground ball rate is still concerning. He's also allowed a 41% hard-hit rate, which is high.

It's not as straightforward a matchup as it might seem, so I'm approaching the Padres cautiously tonight with this in mind. I also do not like the matchup for their offense against Kyle Harrison.

They are batting .234 against left-handers, and their offense also ranks below the middle of the pack in runs scored per game. It's shaping up to be another tough night at the plate for the Padres.

Giants Betting Preview: Should Pounce on the Padres Bullpen

Kyle Harrison gets the ball tonight, and he's been great in limited action in 2025. Harrison had moments of looking sharp in 2024 and draws a decent matchup tonight against the Padres.

Harrison has a 28% strikeout rate and a 34% whiff rate thus far. His average velocity is also higher than last season, averaging 95.4 MPH on his heater.

San Diego struggles against southpaws, and Harrison has shown his strikeout stuff is sharp in the early going. The Padres are tough to punch out, but Harrison should benefit from his home park tonight.

I don't love the matchup for the San Francisco offense tonight, especially against Pivetta. The Giants are a stronger offensive team at home and have an edge against right-handers, but the market is still undervaluing Pivetta.

I do trust the Giants offense more tonight to pull through, but it may not be until the end of the game when Pivetta departs. Harrison still has a lot to prove in 2025, but I like what I see from his metrics thus far.

Padres vs Giants Prediction, Betting Analysis

This line is listed as a coin flip across most books for a reason, and with a total of 7, it is an extremely tough matchup to handicap. However, I will back the Giants tonight to stop the bleeding of their two-game skid.

Harrison draws an underrated matchup against the Padres tonight, who have struggled against left-handers thus far.

I also like what I've seen thus far from him in limited action, which leads me to believe he is on a strong trajectory to have a solid season.

This is a big game for the Giants. They do not want to continue to get buried in the NL West standings. I'll fade the public with the Giants tonight, who have the stronger offensive matchup in what should be a lower-scoring contest
