For my Wednesday MLB player props, I'll be looking into three pitchers in Cristopher Sanchez, Walker Buehler and Shohei Ohtani.
Let's dive into my MLB player prop picks for the games on Wednesday, August 13.
MLB Player Props for August 13, 2025
- Cristopher Sanchez Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-145, Fanatics)
- Walker Buehler Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-150, Caesars)
- Shohei Ohtani Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-120, DraftKings)
Phillies vs Reds Player Props: Sanchez to Whiff Hitters in Cincy
The Cincinnati Reds are two games back of the final NL wild card spot. They're getting great news today with the return of ace Hunter Greene to the mound.
However, run support will be hard to come by with Sanchez getting the ball for the Phillies.
Sanchez is coming off another dominant outing, as he allowed one run on six hits in six innings against the Rangers. It was the eighth time in his last nine starts that he's allowed one run or fewer.
In that span, he's recorded six or more strikeouts six times. Sanchez is tied for 12th in the MLB with 151 strikeouts in 144 2/3 innings.
He has a tough assignment pitching in Great American Ballpark today. However, he won't have to deal with many mashers, as Elly De La Cruz leads the Reds with just 19 homers.
The Reds slash .225/.301./.352 against left-handed pitching this season. They rank 12th in strikeout rate against left-handers, including sixth over the last month.
Sanchez has worked six innings in each of his last 10 starts, and his outs recorded line (18.5) reflects that he's expected to get there once again.
If that's the case, a strikeout per inning will get him over this line.
Red Sox vs Astros Player Props: Trends Favor This Under
Buehler has had a rocky campaign (5.40 ERA), but he's coming off his best outing of the season. Last Friday, he scattered four hits in six shutout innings against a San Diego team that's won 13 of its last 16 games.
However, he finished with just four strikeouts in that matchup. It was the ninth consecutive start that Buehler has failed to reach five strikeouts.
One of those outings came against Houston just 11 days ago. He went 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on nine hits, but he notably had zero strikeouts.
It was the first time in his career that he failed to record a single strikeout, so I do expect him to get on the board tonight. However, he has just a 16.6% strikeout rate this season, which ranks in the 16th percentile of qualified pitchers.
The Astros have also been a difficult team to punch out for several seasons. They rank 23rd in strikeout rate against right-handed pitchers this season and 26th over the last month.
Even Garrett Crochet finished well under his strikeout line on Monday, posting five strikeouts.
It would be a surprise if Buehler got to five tonight.
Dodgers vs Angels Player Props: Strikeout Machine Ohtani?
In August, Ohtani is hitting .439 with a 1.436 OPS. He has three doubles and five home runs, one in each of his last four games.
Keep in mind that he's doing this while returning to the mound.
The Dodgers have slowly been building Ohtani up to be able to unleash him as a pitcher in the playoffs. He went four innings and threw 54 pitches last Wednesday against the Cardinals, his longest outing of the season to this point.
In doing so, he was able to record a season-high eight strikeouts and is up to 25 in 19 innings.
Tonight, Ohtani will pitch against his former team, which offers one of the best matchups for him.
The Angels lead the league in strikeout rate this season. They roughed up Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Monday, but he still had six strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. Emmet Sheehan also had six in five innings yesterday.
It's possible that Ohtani gets a fifth inning today, but the expectation is he'll go four innings.
If he comes out tonight with the arsenal he had against the Cardinals, that should be enough for him to get six strikeouts.
