Los Angeles Clippers vs Houston Rockets Preview

The Clippers and Rockets are both coming off big-time wins.

However, this matchup really comes down to deciding which win we should buy into more vs. which one is more likely to have a negative carryover effect into the next game.

The Rockets just beat the Thunder in Oklahoma City, while the Clippers are coming off a blowout win over the Timberwolves in the game right after trading James Harden.

If there is a win that's more likely to be draining and/or detrimental to the next performance, it's the Rockets' win against the Thunder.

The Thunder are the kind of team that takes everything out of you when you play against them.

It's like going up against one of the top defenses in the NFL and then having to reset and play another team the very next week; there's a natural letdown factor.

There's no tougher team to beat in the NBA right now than Oklahoma City on its home floor, and now the Rockets are coming to town to face the Clippers — a team that we still aren't even sure is a fully serious operation.

Sure, the Rockets beat Oklahoma City recently, but if you zoom out just a little, they really haven't been that good lately.

Over the last five games, the Rockets are 3-2 with a -3.5 net rating, which ranks 20th in the NBA during that span.

Clippers vs Rockets Picks, Betting Predictions

The Rockets shouldn't be laying multiple possessions here, especially against a Clippers team that still has Kawhi Leonard.

I love betting on Kawhi when he's on a mission. Sometimes we get the version of him that simply says, "Who needs all these other guys? I'll do it myself," as demonstrated by his 41 points in his latest outing.

So give me Clippers +7.5 against the Rockets tonight. I'm also going to sprinkle a little on the Clippers moneyline, because if they keep it close and Kawhi is playing like The Claw, they can absolutely win this game.

This could be a huge letdown spot for the Rockets. The Clippers are around +250 on the moneyline, so I'll throw a quarter-unit on that as well.

Clippers vs Rockets Best Bets

  • Clippers +8.5 (-110)
  • Clippers Moneyline (+250)
