Notre Dame Basketball

Notre Dame is 3-0 this season, with three drubbings over mid-major opponents. The Irish have been dominant offensively, recording 1.20 PPP or more in all three games.

Micah Shrewsberry is lucky to have star Markus Burton back for another year. The junior guard is averaging 19.3 points through three games.

The only other double-digit scorer on Notre Dame is Braeden Shrewsberry, who's 11-18 (61%), from 3 this year.

Shooting is the name of the game for the Fighting Irish. They attempt 3s on 47% of their field goal attempts and drill 42% of them.

Plus, Notre Dame is dominant on the offensive glass, collecting 44.1% of its misses.

Carson Towt is the reason for the surge in rebounding. The Northern Arizona transfer averaged a double-double last season and has 10+ boards in each game this season.

I'm definitely buying stock in Notre Dame. Buying into a team that does the brunt of its recruiting from the high school ranks is tough, but most of these players are top-100 recruits.

For instance, Jalen Haralson is a bigger playmaking wing who was a top-20 recruit. He could be a real X-Factor in this matchup thanks to his size, defense and playmaking.

Sophomores Ryder Frost, Cole Certa and Sir Mohammed have also picked up larger roles. Frost and Certa provide shooting and Mohamed is another bigger wing who can be a playmaker.

Ohio State Basketball

Ohio State is off to a blazing hot start to begin the season. The Buckeyes are 3-0, with all three of their wins coming by 16+ points.

The most impressive aspect of Ohio State's early-season success is its offense. Thus far, it's reached 1.20 PPP or more in all three of its games.

Scoring efficiently inside the arc has been the name of the game for the Buckeyes, as they're shooting 72% from that area of the floor (the best mark in America).

They also shoot it well from deep. Ohio State attempts 3s on 48% of its field goal attempts, connecting on 40.3%

The brilliant guard tandem of Bruce Thornton and John Mobley Jr. is making a huge difference for the Buckeyes. Thornton is enjoying his senior campaign, averaging 25.2 points with four rebounds and four assists per game. He's also shooting 70% from the field.

His backcourt mate — Mobley — is shooting 40% from deep, but his game is a bit more limited.

Also of note, the Buckeyes have very worrisome depth, and Devin Royal seems questionable, at best, for this game. During his Friday presser, head coach Jake Diebler gave an ominous statement on Royal's status for Sunday's game.

If Royal is out again, Brandon Noel will start. The Wright State transfer is a solid offensive player and floor-stretcher, but his defense is quite concerning.

Speaking of concerns, Ohio State appears to be a very poor defensive unit. It ranks 85th in defensive efficiency with the 253rd-ranked 2-point field goal percentage defense. Typically, 2-point field goal defense can be a solid indicator of future defensive success.

The Buckeyes' leaders in blocks are 7-footer Christoph Tilly and Thornton, who each have one block this year. Nobody else has a single swat.

Tilly is a fantastic offensive weapon for Diebler, but he's rough on the defensive end.

Notre Dame vs. Ohio State Betting Analysis

The Buckeyes are the better team from a top-end talent perspective. There's no denying how good the Thornton, Tilly, Mobley trio is, and if Royal plays, that becomes a quartet.

That said, I'm very lukewarm on their depth and defense.

Ohio State will have even worse rim defense if the burly-built Royal is out. That'll also force Tilly and Noel to be careful and avoid fouls to not dig into the brutal depth.

Give me the Fighting Irish to cover here. Notre Dame should slow it down enough and shoot it well enough to keep the game within reach in Columbus.

My Pick: Notre Dame +8
