Iowa vs USC NCAAF Week 12 Pick
I lean toward USC, but I’m not sure I can do it.
Iowa will run mainly outside-zone concepts with 12 personnel. The problem is that USC ranks 126th nationally in Rush Success Rate allowed.
However, USC’s defense has only seen 11 snaps of outside-zone with 12 personnel, so it’s tough to gauge the Trojans’ defense in this matchup.
Still, there’s nothing in the metrics that says Iowa won’t be creating quality drives and getting into scoring position.
With Waymond Jordan injured, King Miller has been fantastic for USC, with over 250 yards and two touchdowns across the past two weeks. He’s forced nine missed tackles while averaging 5.3 yards after first contact per rush.
I think he is the difference, especially if this becomes a heavy rain game, which we’re expecting in the second half. USC should still have a ground attack, especially against an Iowa defense that doesn’t defend inside-zone concepts well.
Additionally, there’s a considerable advantage for USC in tackling. Per SportsInfoSolutions, USC ranks 10th nationally in broken tackles allowed, while Iowa ranks 98th. That’ll be massive on a mush field.
Pick: Lean USC -6.5
