This article contains predictions for an old game.

The Kansas City Chiefs (6-0) and Las Vegas Raiders (2-5) will kick off the late Sunday afternoon slate of NFL Week 8. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. ET from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The game will be broadcast on CBS and can be streamed on platforms like Paramount+ or YouTube TV.

The Chiefs are consensus 8.5-point favorites over the Raiders (Chiefs -8.5) with the over/under set at 42 points. Kansas City is a -450 on the moneyline to win outright, while Las Vegas is +340 to pull off the upset.

The Chiefs remained undefeated with a 28-18 win over the 49ers despite Patrick Mahomes' 16-of-27 outing for 154 yards and 2 interceptions. Kareem Hunt did run for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Raiders lost 20-15 to the Rams, their third straight defeat. Gardner Minshew took over for the injured Aidan O'Connell and went 15-of-34 for 154 yards and 3 interceptions.

Let's get into my Chiefs vs. Raiders prediction and my NFL picks for Week 8.

Chiefs vs. Raiders Picks and Predictions

Prediction

Chiefs 2H -3.5 (-115)

My Raiders vs. Chiefs best bet is on Kansas City in the second half. For all of your NFL bets, be sure to find the best lines by using our live NFL odds page.

Spread

According to the betting trends, the Raiders are the pick here over the full game. Mahomes doesn't cover at a great rate as a big favorite, but I have no interest in betting a Raiders team that by all metrics are awful.

So, thanks to Evan Abrams, I found a trend that gives us a pick. The Chiefs have covered the second-half spread in 11 straight games. The first-half spread is 6.5 points, but it's 3.5 points in the second half, so we'll hop on that.

Over/Under

I'm not betting the total for this game, but it's worth noting that second-half unders were a very profitable bet last season.

Moneyline

I'm not betting any moneylines in this game.

My pick: Chiefs 2H -3.5 (-115)

Chiefs vs. Raiders Week 8 Preview

There are a litany of trends that say the Chiefs are probably going to win this game, but covering is a different story.

According to the eye test, the Chiefs are not the prolific machine they have been in years past. Maybe they figure it out and get going eventually when Isiah Pacheco returns and if DeAndre Hopkins can be a factor in the offense, but it’s not clicking right now.

Kansas City ranks in the top seven in DVOA on both sides of the ball, though, so there’s reason to believe things could turn around quickly — from an aesthetics perspective, obviously, since it can’t get better than winning every game.

Including the playoffs, the Chiefs have won 12 straight games, but none of those wins have been by 20 or more points. According to Action Network’s Evan Abrams, that’s the longest such 12-game win streak in NFL history.

As a big favorite, Mahomes has been a solid fade in his career. He’s 22-27-3 against the spread (ATS) when laying seven or more points, including 5-10-2 on the road. When laying seven or more points to divisional opponents, he’s 10-12-2. (All data via Abrams.)

There’s an easy way to bet the Chiefs and not have to feel awful all day about backing the Raiders.

This season, the Chiefs are 6-0 against the second-half spread. Caleb Williams is the only other QB to have that record this season. Dating back to last season, Mahomes has covered the second-half spread in 11 straight games and is 13-1 in his last 14 starts.

At DraftKings, as of Friday afternoon, the first-half spread is Chiefs -6.5, but it’s just -3.5 in the second half. The thought clearly is that Kansas City will come out firing then slow down after halftime. Well, the trends indicate K.C. is a machine in the second half, so I’ll take the decreased spread.

Chiefs vs. Raiders Best Bets

Pick: Chiefs 2H -3.5 (-115)

  • Chiefs vs. Raiders point spread: Chiefs -8.5
  • Chiefs vs. Raiders total: Over/under 42 points
  • Chiefs vs. Raiders money lines: Chiefs -450, Raiders +340
