Jared Goff Under 23.5 Pass Completions

Despite having a bevy of talented pass-catchers, the Lions offense only functions well when they are able to run the football. This is not a team built to come from behind, as we saw last week against Kansas City.

Good news for them: they are sizable favorites at home tonight and are likely to build their lead by running with authority against a Buccaneers defense that ranks 21st in success rate allowed.

This game script will take the load off Jared Goff, who has been extremely efficient this season, leading the NFL in completion percentage. However, he only averages 29 pass attempts per game.

In five of six games, Detroit has had 30 or fewer pass attempts, and that trend is in line with Goff staying under this total.

From there, the trickle-down effect begins.

Fewer pass attempts means fewer targets for the Lions' leading receiver: Amon-Ra St. Brown.

St. Brown has shown he can be an exception at times — he garners a 30 percent target share and has exceeded seven receptions in three games, but the game script works against him.

The market is in line with a somewhat quieter night for St. Brown as his under has an implied probability of 58.8 percent. In 2024, St. Brown stayed under this total 66 percent of the time, so don't let his recent production fool you.

In the long run, this number is too high in most scenarios.

Jahmyr Gibbs Under 3.5 Receptions

The next domino to fall in the Lions' passing attack is running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

Gibbs has become the leading rusher in this offense as he has proven to be explosive and durable.

However, his success as a rusher has worked against him as a receiver. The Lions have not needed his passing work as they do not face many third-and-long situations.

We've seen Gibbs' volume decrease drastically this season as he's averaged just 4.2 targets per game and has had three or fewer targets in four games this season.

With the Lions expected to be running the ball a good amount, we should expect Gibbs' target volume to stay low.

Jameson Williams Anytime Touchdown

While our whole angle is harping on the Lions' passing attack, the one pass-catcher who is not volume-dependent is Jameson Williams.

Williams is averaging 20.2 yards per reception this season and has found paydirt twice.

The Buccaneers have been susceptible to big plays through the air as they rank 26th in yards per pass allowed and 23rd in opponent completion percentage. On top of that, 10 of the 15 touchdowns they have allowed this season have been of the passing variety.

On a night where the Lions won't be pass-heavy, look for Williams to make a big splash when the defense gets sucked in by the run game.
