He’s starting at TE with the injuries to Tremble and Thomas. Looked very impressive in the preseason and earned the praise of Canales and the Panthers coaches. Out of Texas with great hands and YAC ability. Should be an environment where Panthers will need to throw. Saints graded well on paper against TEs last season (11th in DVOA), but still allowed a TE over in 13/17 games, allowing 49 ypg to the position. Coachspeak makes me think Sanders will get some manufactured targets in this one. Johnson and Thielen should have tougher matchups as well against Lattimore and Adebo.

Line is moving. Coming off a relatively quiet year in an awful situation on the Steelers with a run-heavy team (Najee + Warren) that dictated the offense. From 2020-2022 when he was the “X Reciever” on the team, he put up top-30 fantasy performances, the year later in 2023, he averages 55.2 yards/game, in a different role that required a longer aDOT next to George Pickens where his season was in the midst of an injury recovery. Now traded to the Carolina Panthers, Diontae should immediately relish his new look fitting right in as the #1 and X option and new OC Dave Canales has raved about him every chance he got. When asked about the scheme, he said “As we build are offense, we will really try to feature someone — and for us right now, it’s “Where’s Diontae Johnson at?” Carolina was a dumster fire last year with QB Bryce Young lacking direction and talent to throw to (Thielen was the #1) and the hope is that OC Canales, who helped turn around Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield’s career, could do the same for Bryce in Year 2. Diontae’s incredible route running and ability to separate is something that’s much needed in the offense and with the Saints running the 2nd most man coverage - this is where I expect him to shine. Last season, in limited sample size, Diontae had a 0.9 YPRR (90th percentile) and 0.92 TRR (92nd-percentile). It’s immediately not the best matchup you can ask for, as I expect he sees somewhat of Marshon Lattimore in coverage, but the Saints are more built at taking away perimeter threats, whereas shiftier wideouts like Diontae can beat their front seven in mismatches. I also expect game script to work in advantage as the Panthers could trail here. Ultimately, this is more of a # value than matchup value, something you have to do in Week 1 before the books catch up. 49.5 is a number we may never see again .. with 55-60 being more the norm going forward. #PlayerProps

New Orleans Saints Odds, Bet Types, and Team History

The New Orleans Saints had a poor 2023 season, as they went 9-8. Though that was an improvement over their 7-10 record during the 2022 season, they still were a disappointment, considering the high hopes many had for them ahead of 2023.

During the offseason, the Saints have had some key additions and subtractions from their roster. They have released former NFL OPOY Michael Thomas, who is now a free agent after struggling with injuries during his last few seasons with the Saints. They did manage to make a key addition to their defense, signing former Pro-Bowler Chase Young.

Overall, the New Orleans Saints' success in the 2024 NFL season will depend on the performance of quarterback Derek Carr and the development of young offensive talents like Chris Olave and Kendre Miller. Olave in particular needs to grow into being the Saints' primary receiving option, and he will certainly be the key to how well their offense does this season.

The Saints open up their season at home against the Carolina Panthers.

New Orleans Saints & Caesars

The New Orleans Saints and Caesars announced a blockbuster partnership in 2021. The 20-year deal rebranded the Saints' iconic home field as the Caesars Superdome.

Betting on the New Orleans Saints

New Orleans Saints Point Spreads

Betting point spreads are wagers based on the expectation that a team will win or lose by a certain number of points. Here’s an example:

  • Falcons +5.5 (+110)
  • Saints -5.5 (-110)

In this situation, the Falcons are 5.5-point underdogs against the Saints. If New Orleans wins the game by six or more points, a $100 wager on the Saints would come with a payout of $90.91. If Atlanta won the game outright or lost by five points or less, the same $100 wager would net $110 plus the original $100 for a total of $210.

FAQ: Everything you need to know about point spreads

New Orleans Saints Over/Unders

Over/under, also called point total, is a wager placed on the combined scoring of a single game. Bookmakers come up with a number and you can either bet the over or — you guessed it — the under. Here’s how it works:

Let's say the Saints play the Buccaneers and the over/under is set at 58 points. A wager on the over would require New Orleans and Tampa Bay to score 59 total points or more to win. Betting the under is an expectation that the two teams would score 57 or fewer points. It's also possible for the betto push, which would happen if the game finished with exactly 58 points scored.

FAQ: Betting the point total, explained | What is a push?

New Orleans Saints Moneyline

The moneyline is as straightforward as it gets when it comes to betting. The only thing to do here is pick the winner. Check out this example:

  • Panthers +200
  • Saints -240

The minus (-) and plus (+) signs distinguish the favorite from the underdog, making New Orleans the favorite in this scenario. Odds can be understood more clearly if you think in terms of $10 or $100 increments. A wager on the Saints odds would mean every $24 bet nets $10. And it's the opposite for underdogs: Here the Panthers moneyline was set at +200, meaning a $10 wager would profit $20.

Moneylines are also commonly used when making parlays, which are multiple bets tied into one. Let’s say you bet the Saints moneyline and a -2.5 point spread, New Orleans would need to win by three points or more for that bet to be successful. The risk is greater, but so is the reward with increased odds. Use our Odds Calculator to calculate any bet amount or conversion.

FAQ: How to bet on the moneyline | How to make a parlay

New Orleans Saints Props

Player props are wagers on a single player, and they're tied to a single stat found in the box score for a game or even the whole season. These are among the most fun to bet on, especially if you're already playing fantasy football and like the player-specific focus it offers. Check out a hypothetical example below:

  • Derek Carr 2023 passing touchdowns: 22.5

In this example, a bettor will wager on whether Winston will throw for more or less than 26.5 touchdowns over the course of the regular season.

FAQ: How prop betting works

Saints Futures

Futures are somewhat similar to prop bets in the way that both are monitored over the course of a season. Except most future bets are focused on end of season success. Examples of futures are:

  • New Orleans Saints odds to win the NFC South
  • New Orleans Saints odds to win the NFC
  • New Orleans Saints odds to win the Super Bowl
  • Alvin Kamara’s odds to win Offensive Player of the Year
  • Cameron Jordan’s odds to win Defensive Player of the Year

If you think the Saints are going to pick up where they left off without Drew Brees or might go even further than that, this is the place to be. For a full list of NFL futures, click or tap here.
