Utah Utes Football
Quarterback Cameron Rising, who missed the entirety of the 2023 season, is set to return in 2024 and lead the Utes in their first season in the Big 12. Kyle Whittingham has built one of the most stable, consistent programs in the country and there's no reason to expect anything less than a strong campaign in 2024.
Yes, the Utes are moving into a new conference, but Whittingham has a history of winning and it wouldn't be a surprise to anyone to see Utah win the Big 12 this season. If you're a believer in the Utes, be sure to look into some college football futures bets. Also, be sure to see how we rank Utah in our college football power ratings .
Betting on the Utah Utes
Utah Utes Point Spreads
Utah went 6-5-1 against the spread in 2023. Favored teams — those whose point spreads are preceded by a minus sign — need to win by more than that amount to win against-the-spread. Underdogs (plus sign), just need to lose by fewer, or win the game outright.
Here’s how a Utes spread might look:
- Utah +9.5 (-110)
- Washington -9.5 (-110)
If the Utes lose 24-21, they’re still winners ATS, since they lost by fewer than 9.5 points. Washington, favored by 9.5 here, would need to win by 10 or more to cover the spread.
Utah Utes Over/Unders
Instead of betting on the margin of victory, you can also bet on how many points will be scored in a Utes game. This is called an over/under, or total, and is a common bet to make on college football.
If oddsmakers set the total at 47 points for that game against Washington, then a 24-21 final is a win for bettors who took the under. If you took the over, you’d be hoping for at least 48 points between the teams. You can also bet the total for a single team if you have a strong feeling that way.
Utah Utes Moneylines
You can also keep it simple and just place a moneyline wager on the Utes. Instead of worrying about how much they win by, moneylines are outright bets. If the Utes win, so do moneyline bettors.
The pricing is where things get somewhat more complicated, though. If the Utes are +175 underdogs, for example, a $100 bettor would make $175 in profit when they win. A -175 favorite would require a $175 bet to earn $100 in profit.
Utah Utes Props
Props are great bets for those coming in from the fantasy football streets. Props are just like fantasy in that they involve tracking a single player's stats.
There’s a wide variety of player props out there, and some popular props to wager on include over/unders on the quarterback's passing yards, rushing touchdowns or odds on the first player to find the end zone in any given game.
Utah Utes Futures
A great part of betting is being able to take a side. If you have a strong conviction, you could bet on the Utes to win more or less games than oddsmakers are expecting this year, for example.
This type of bet is a future, and it involves betting on the outcome of an entire season. Besides their win total, you could bet on the Utes' odds to win the Big 12 or on various players' end-of-season stat lines.
