Kicking off Friday’s action in the Premier League, West Ham welcome cross-town rival Brentford for a London Derby.
The Hammers have struggled this season, losing their last four to sit in 16th in the league table.
Meanwhile, the Bees are looking to end the year in the top half of the table, currently holding 10th on 20 points.
This should be a match between two sides that will be pushing for a result, which could give us an entertaining affair at the London Stadium.
West Ham United Spiraling Due to Offensive Struggles
After advancing to the Europa League semifinals a season ago, things have not gone to plan for manager Davis Moyes through the opening 16 games.
The primary issue has been finding the back of the net, as only Everton, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers have scored fewer goals in the EPL.
Saïd Benrahma leads the Hammers with three goals, but they need more from Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen. Unfortunately, summer signing Gianluca Scamacca picked up an injury during the break that kept him out of the last match.
Moyes’ side has been good defensively, ranking inside the top 5 in xG allowed per 90 minutes (1.11) and big scoring chances conceded per match (1.63), according to fbref.com. The solid defense still hasn’t been enough to pick up results.
Brentford Sitting on Key Question
The big question surrounding Brentford is when England’s Football Association will hand down a suspension to striker Ivan Toney over his alleged breaches of betting rules.
Any lengthy absence would really hurt the Bees, as Toney’s 11 league goals only trail Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.
He is also a key reason why Brentford are one of the best in the EPL in goals per shot (4th) and big scoring chances created (4th).
At the moment, Toney will continue to be in the starting 11 for Thomas Frank, which makes this a difficult club to beat.
West Ham United vs. Brentford Pick
West Ham are listed as the moneyline favorite at +105 to go with a total set at 2.5 goals. I do not see any value in either of those plays, but I do see this being a very even game.
My best bet is to back the draw on the three-way moneyline at +250.
No team in the EPL has more ties than the Bees this season, with half of their 16 games ending in a draw. Brentford’s four draws away from home are also the most in the English top flight.
In addition, four of their last six fixtures have ended without a winner.
Another option to attack this match would be to take the BTTS line, especially with this same bet cashing in 75% of Brentford’s road games.
However, it is hard for me to trust this struggling West Ham attack at those odds. Frank could set up his team conservatively to stifle the Hammers, which works in our favor on the draw.
Pick: Draw (+250)
