The New York Mets host the St. Louis Cardinals in MLB action on Friday night. Right-hander Miles Mikolas will take the mound for St. Louis against fellow right-hander Tylor Megill for New York.
Sean Koerner, Action Network's director of analytics, breaks down his favorite prop from the slate below. Be sure to check out our MLB props page for full projections for a variety of player props across the board.
Miles Mikolas Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-140, BetMGM)
Miles Mikolas's K/9 rate currently sits at 6.92 for the year, which is the highest it's been in the last three seasons.
Underlying data says his strikeout rate should really be closer to 6.2, so he's due for some negative regression in the swing-and-miss category.
Mikolas's 7.1% swinging strike rate is the lowest it's been since 2013. His strikeout rate will likely plummet going forward if he maintains that number.
Mikolas is facing a Mets team that is very tough to strike out. There's really no easy strikeouts in the projected lineup. The highest K odds he will have is Francisco Alvarez's first plate appearance, where he has a 24% chance to strike out.
I'm projecting this closer to -200 to go under 4.5 strikeouts.
