Cardinals Over 3.5 Runs F7 innings +120
Cardinals vs Phillies | 7 p.m. ET
This week’s edition of Sunday Night Baseball features the NL leading Phillies and the surging Cardinals.
For this matchup, I’m looking to effectively fade Phillies starter Taijuan Walker by backing the Cardinals on their first seven innings team total.
Through his first six starts, Walker has really struggled this season. He has pitched to a 5.51 ERA, but you could make the argument that he’s actually been lucky because his xERA sits at 6.17. He also has a Hard-hit Rate, Ground-ball Rate and Barrel Rate all at the bottom of the leaderboards.
Walker has really struggled against lefties, who are hitting .379 against the righty with an Aaron Judge-esque 1.046 OPS. That bodes well for the Cardinals, who are likely to start five or six left-handed bats tonight.
St. Louis’ two main righties, Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt, are a combined 11-for-30 off Walker, with six extra-base hits.
The Cardinals offense has crept above average of late. Over the last two weeks against righties, St. Louis has registered a 103 wRC+ and .701 OPS.
After Ranger Suarez had to exit yesterday’s game after two innings, the Phillies will need to lean on Walker to pitch deep into this game. That bodes well for this bet because Walker allows a .917 OPS the third time through the batting order.
This all adds up to one of my favorite spots of the day and hopefully a nice plus-money cash to finish the week.
