The Atlanta Hawks visit the Chicago Bulls on Monday night to face off for the third time this season. The season series is split 1-1, and both matchups ended in dramatic faction.
On Dec. 11, 2022, Adrian Griffin hit an alley-oop with .05 seconds left on the clock to beat the buzzer and win the game in overtime. In the second game, Ayo Dosunmu returns the favor with his own buzzer beating layup to give the Bulls a revenge win.
Here’s a look at the odds, as well as our pick and prediction for Hawks vs. Bulls.
Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks have been wading in a pool of mediocrity this season. They recently strung together a five-game win streak before it was broken by the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday. They are only 1.5 games behind the Miami Heat in the Southeast Division and things are looking up. Clint Capela is back in the lineup and Dejounte Murray is playing better recently.
In their previous five games, they are ranked 2nd in Offensive Rating (126.4) in the league, per NBA Advanced Stats. Over the last month, Capela's injury has given big man Onyeka Okongwu the chance to shine and get some additional development. His rebounding and defense has been a nice boost to a Hawks team that really struggles on the defensive end. He is listed as questionable for Monday's game.
One observation I have noticed is that the Hawks are 9-16 ATS (36%) against teams that play at a faster pace than the league average, per the SDQL at Gimme the Dog. This is active here as the Bulls play at a fast tempo.
Chicago Bulls
The Bulls have returned from an international showdown against the Detroit Pistons in Paris on Thursday where they easily won (and covered the spread) 126-108. Their last game prior to the Paris game was on Sunday, Jan. 15. Therefore, this is only their third game in nine days, and the extra time off should offset any jet lag from the overseas travel.
One interesting stat is the Bulls are 13-5-2 (72.2%) against the spread off a win this season. Goran Dragic is listed as questionable for Monday's game with an illness. However, he has struggled off the bench and has seen his minutes decrease over the season, so I don't see his absence moving the needle.
Nikola Vucevic has hit double-digit rebounds in 10 consecutive games and has averaged 13.6 rebounds in that timeframe. The Hawks are 29th in opponent's rebounds allowed (46.2). His rebound line is currently set at 11.5 and has hit this mark in eight of those 10 games.
Hawks-Bulls Pick
I am rocking with the Bulls here. They are the more well-rested team. This will be the Hawks fifth game in eight nights and their fatigue was obvious in their loss against the Hornets. On the other hand, this will only be the Bulls' second game in that same timeframe.
In their previous two matchups, the Bulls were on the second night of a back-to-back; yet, they were still able to win one of those games despite the unfavorable situation. Now, with this significant rest advantage in mind, I make the Bulls three-point favorites here and see value at the current market price.
In addition, I like Vucevic to continue to go over his rebound prop, currently set at 11.5.
Pick: Bulls ML -112 (Play at -120 or better) |
Pick: Vucevic Over 11.5 Rebounds |
