Penn State vs. Maryland
Allar had 142 passing yards against Indiana before padding his stats with 68 yards on the final drive against the Hoosiers.
Even with a rare deep ball finding one of his receivers, he still failed to eclipse this number. He hasn’t surpassed 225 yards in seven straight games because the play-calling from offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich simply doesn’t ask him to do so.
According to NBC Sports’ Eric Froton, Allar’s ADOT is just 7.5 yards, making him one of the most risk-averse passers in the country. Among passers with at least 200 attempts this season he checks in at 72nd out of 83 quarterbacks from an ADOT perspective.
And the deciding factor here is the Maryland pass defense.
The Terps aren’t perfect on the back end, but they can hold their own when it comes to limiting big plays. They rank 37th in limiting passing explosives, and while they haven’t faced many pass-happy teams, Penn State is just another conservative offense on their schedule.
The Terrapins give up fewer than three pass plays of 20-plus yards per game (42nd).
I would play this down to 216.5 and bank on more dinking and dunking from Penn State’s five-star quarterback.
Pick: Drew Allar Under 225.5 Passing Yards (Play to 216.5)
LSU vs. Alabama
By Greg Liodice
As we’ve learned more and more about this new-age Alabama offense, we know one thing for sure: Jalen Milroe loves to throw the deep ball. He doesn’t just throw for the heck of it either — Milroe has proven to be incredibly accurate with his deep passes.
His favorite targets, Jermaine Burton and Isaiah Bond, have each produced some big games. Bond recently pulled in three receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown against Tennessee, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Milroe looks his way often against LSU.
The Tigers don't defend the pass well at all, especially explosive plays. They may have a high-powered offense, but defensively, there’s a lot they need to figure out. LSU ranks 107th in Defensive Passing Success Rate and 124th in PPA.
I’d have to imagine with the Tide’s bye week, there was plenty of time to find the holes in LSU’s defense.
DraftKings has Bond’s total at 52.5, and I think he goes over. I fully expect both he and Burton to have big games, similar to when they throttled Texas A&M’s secondary.
If they can beat A&M’s secondary, who knows what they can do against an inefficient LSU’s defense?
Pick: Isaiah Bond Over 52.5 Receiving Yards (Play to 60.5)
Oregon State vs. Colorado
By Alex Hinton
Since a 3-0 start, Colorado is 1-4 — much to the delight of those already tired of Coach Prime.
However, the Buffaloes have already cleared their win total and have improved by three wins since last season. Coach Prime brought in several skill players, most notably Travis Hunter, and his son Shedeur Sanders at quarterback.
Where Colorado must improve next is in the trenches. However, for now, it will have a massive disadvantage in the trenches on both sides of the ball against Oregon State.
That's music to the ears of an Oregon State, which wants to run the rock.
Oregon State is fourth in the FBS in Rushing Success Rate and averages 187.1 rushing yards per game. Running back Damien Martinez accounts for 95 of that total.
Now, Martinez has three 100-yard games this season, but none of them have come in conference play. However, that doesn't mean he's fallen off completely. He's had games of 81, 89, 90 and 87, so he hasn't been far off.
Another first down would get him over this week.
Martinez may soar past this line against Colorado's defense. The Buffs rank 95th in Rushing Success Rate Allowed defensively and are 97th with 165 yards rushing yards allowed per game. They also come in at 98th in rushing explosiveness defensively.
Martinez has had a 20-yard in five of his eight games this season. That may help him reach this number faster, but he should hit this line with 15 carries or more.
