Marshall and Georgia Southern meet at Joan C. Edwards Stadium on Saturday for a Sun Belt Conference tilt between two teams looking to get back on track.
The Thundering Herd have lost five straight, but the Eagles are still in contention for a conference title as they're just a win behind Coastal Carolina in the Eastern Division.
That being said, let's make our Georgia Southern vs Marshall Prediction.
With games against James Madison, Texas State, Coastal Carolina and Georgia State already done, head coach Clay Helton’s team is set up to make a run at the Sun Belt title game, especially if James Madison is still deemed ineligible.
However, two of their remaining three contests are away from home, where the Eagles have struggled. Has that been a result of poor road form? Or is it more the byproduct of playing some of their tougher opponents on the road?
Regardless, Helton is going to need Davis Brin to continue to play at a high level in his Air Raid offense. Brin leads the conference in both passing (294.6 yards per game) and completions (257).
On defense, the Eagles are led by Marques Watson-Trent, who needs seven tackles to record his second straight 100-tackle season and could become the first Georgia Southern player since Joe Scott (2001-02) to do so.
This is Marshall’s annual game honoring the 75 people whose lives were lost in the Marshall plane crash on Nov. 14, 1970. So, we should get an emotional conference battle on the NFL Network.
Through the first four weeks, coach Charles Huff had his team rolling. The Herd were off to a perfect 4-0 start, which included a win over Virginia Tech.
However, after the victory over Old Dominion on Sept. 30, Marshall hasn't been able to pick up another win. The main factor for this has been the struggles on offense.
In the past three defeats, the Thundering Herd have averaged just eight points per game and have scored just one offensive touchdown in the process.
Huff’s squad has been hit by multiple injuries to key players, and he desperately needs to rally the team if they plan to make a bowl game.

Georgia Southern vs Marshall
Betting Pick & Prediction
Given how important this game is for the university, I don’t like to go against Marshall. But, I can’t ignore how the team has played recently.
So, my best bet is Georgia Southern -2.5, which I would play to -3. I also think the Eagles are a great moneyline-parlay piece.
The one major weakness for the Thundering Herd is how the team has defended the pass lately. Over the past four weeks, Marshall has been in the bottom five among Non-Power 5 programs in both Passing PPA and Pass Success Rate defensively.
When that's the case, going up against Georgia Southern’s Air Raid, which ranks in the top 25 in the country in Pass Success, is not a welcomed sight.
On the other side of the ball, I don’t trust Marshall to keep up. the Herd are outside the top 120 in Rush Success, Line Yards and Finishing Drives.
Running the ball has been this program’s identity and without that, I just don’t trust them to move the ball.
Give me the Eagles to continue to fly toward a shot at the Sun Belt Championship.
Pick: Georgia Southern -2.5 (Play to -3)
