SMU is preparing for its first season in the ACC and will have to face some serious competition such as Florida State and Louisville. This marks a potential revival of the SMU football program, mired in controversy and mediocrity since the 1980s.

There's a lot of optimism around the program as it looks to become a serious Power 4 contender. After an 11-3 record in 2023, SMU football could be on the rise.

SMU Mustangs Point Spreads

"Covering the spread" is a reference to a spread bet, which is a bet on how much a team will win the game by.

Here’s how a Mustangs spread might look:

• SMU +6.5 (-110)
• Florida State -6.5 (-110)

If the Mustangs win 24-21, they’re winners ATS, since they need to win or lose by six points or less to cash spread tickets. Florida State, on the other hand, can cover with a win of seven or more points.

SMU Mustangs Over/Unders

SMU has been in some high-scoring matchups in recent years.

Oddsmakers set the total at how many points they think will be scored, so it could be 57 for a game against Nevada, for example. If you took the under, a 28-20 final means your bet pays off no matter who wins the game. If you bet over, you’d need there to be at least 57 points scored between the two teams. Ties on the bet are possible, and they result in refunds.
