This article contains predictions for an old game.

The New Orleans Saints (2-5) and Los Angeles Chargers (3-3) will kick off the late Sunday afternoon slate of NFL Week 8. Kickoff is set for 4:05 p.m. ET from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. The game will be broadcast on FOX and can be streamed on platforms like YouTube TV.

The Chargers are consensus 7-point favorites over the Saints (Chargers -7) with the game total set at 41. Los Angeles is a -340 on the moneyline to win outright, while New Orleans is +270 to pull off the upset.

The Saints lost 33-10 to the Broncos last week, their fifth straight defeat. Spencer Rattler is set to start for New Orleans, which has lost its last three games by at least 13 points. The Chargers lost 17-15 to the Cardinals last week. Justin Herbert threw for 349 yards, but the Chargers didn't score a touchdown in the defeat.

Let's get into my Saints vs. Chargers predictions and my NFL picks for Sunday Week 8.

My Chargers vs. Saints best bet is on the under. For all of your NFL bets, be sure to find the best lines by using our live NFL odds page.

Pick Against the Spread

The Chargers are the pick here, but I'm not going to make that my official bet. While the trends say the Saints are a clear fade, I'm passing because of the Chargers' lack of offensive firepower. I'm not sure I can lay seven points on a team that has scored more than 20 points just once in its last four games.

Over/Under Prediction

While the trends are strong toward the Chargers, there are a few that indicate the under is the clear play. Justin Herbert is an under bettor's dream, and the Saints offense has been awful of late.

Moneyline

I'm not betting any moneyline here.

My pick: Under 41.5 (-115)

How to Bet Saints vs. Chargers Picks and Odds

Evan Abrams did a great job of laying out why everyone should stay away from the Saints this week. There is a litany of trends that say the Chargers are the bet despite laying seven points on them seems unideal.

Since Week 2, the Saints have been awful. New Orleans has allowed 26 or more points in four straight games and 30 in its last two.

Historically, the Saints are 40-30-1 after allowing 24 or more points in consecutive games. That record, though, is skewed by Sean Payton. Under him in that scenario, the Saints were 30-15-1 against the spread (ATS), while Dennis Allen’s Saints are 2-6.

Also, this matchup seems great for the Chargers defense, which ranks eighth in DVOA this season.

In Justin Herbert’s starts, he’s 26-10-2 ATS when his defense allows 24 points or fewer. Obviously, the Chargers offense isn’t as prolific this season as years past, but do we think a Spencer Rattler-led offense is going to score 24 points in this game? It seems highly unlikely.

That’s the case for the Chargers to cover, but I’ll play it safe and bet the under here. Seven points is a lot to lay on an offense that seems void of any firepower.

In the last decade, teams that have allowed 26 or more points in four straight games are 51-76-2 ATS in their next game, which is a reason to fade the Saints. The under, though, is 84-45.

Also, the under is 15-2 in Herbert’s last 17 starts. Over the last three seasons, he’s 25-12 to the under.

The trends say to bet the Chargers so I wouldn’t blame anyone who does that. I’m betting the under, though.

Pick: Under 41.5 (-115)
